[Billy glances up.] Oh, hey. [He gives Rex a thin smile. He doesn't mind Rex. At least he likes him a lot better than he likes anyone else around here.] Nothing. I'm just... you know, killing time.

[He nods.] I'm looking for snake skins and seeing if I can identify their species. [Why? BECAUSE IT IS FUN.] Wanna help?

[Billy tries super hard not to look as excited as he totally is.] Yeah, that sounds cool. I saw the pool guy saying there were snakes in the lake, maybe we could go look there.

[John Beatty was not happy with his current situation here. Oh no. He had been called out one too many times and that just wouldn't do. Determined to get away from them all, he took to the woods. His intention was not to sneak out or anything so dramatic, but rather to have some peace and quiet. So, when that was disturbed by someone else, he turned an annoyed glance over.]

[Billy looks over at Beatty, and frowns, sullenly.] Nothing. What are you doing?

[He frowns and shakes his head, deciding on truth over lies.] Trying to get away from them.

All the nice people think I'm weird, and all the smart people are whiny jerks. [Billy blurted out, assuming that this fellow runaway would instantly understand his objection.]

[Alice doesn't exactly sneak up on him, but she's slow to announce her presence. She's sensibly dressed for the outdoors - T-shirt, shorts, functional sandals, slight scent of sun cream - which, so far, is all spotlessly clean. Unsure if she's been noticed or not, she waits for a moment before clearing her throat:]

What are you doing?

[She's spent the previous day hiding behind a postgrad physics text, so it wouldn't surprise her at all if he decides she's a snobby bitch or just doesn't recognise her all.]

[Billy glances up, then INSTANTLY LOOKS BACK DOWN, BECAUSE OHSHIT IT'S A GIRL.]

[He descends pretty quickly into mumbling under his breath.]

[She takes a moment to process that. Dealing with post-adolescents is more what she's used to. Carefully, she kneels down opposite him, on the other side of the pool.]

Were you looking for anything in particular?

[Billy shakes his head. She seems super grown up as well, and he feels stupid for being caught playing around so aimlessly.]

I was just I was just walking out here. I wasn't really looking for anything.

[He should say something else. To distract her from what he was looking at.]

I'm don't like being around too many people.

[Billy lets out a small yelp and jumps out of his skin, in response to your surprise attack. Stumbling forward, he lands on his butt in the middle of the creek. Then he glares at you.]

What is wrong with you?

[Billy glowered at Loki, clearly gearing up for something special here.]

Why do you have to be such-- such a jerk!

[And sure enough, he launches himself up out of the creek and towards Loki.]
