Trey isn't sure how he's even standing, at this point. The day went from perfect to a living hell in a matter of minutes and, hours later, everyone in Central City is just... numb. On one hand, as a scientist, he and his team should have seen some sign that quakes were a possibility. Trey's entire life has been devoted to studying rocks and soil, and he'd missed it.
People were dead, now, because he hadn't done his job.
On the other hand, though, professional failings are the last thing Trey cares about right now. In this moment, the only thing that matters is news that his wife has been found. He doesn't even know how they got separated when the shaking started, but he knows she isn't there at his side.
They want him to look at the reports; to figure out how this disaster happened and what's still to come. But, until he sees her in front of him, Trey will have nothing to do with professionalism. This is no time for work.
A chorus of shouts can be heard off to one side, which catches his attention. Someone has been discovered and they didn't survive. His breath catches, praying to whatever being will listen that it isn't her. Seeing dark brown hair and a flash of yellow gives him reason to exhale - his wife was wearing green and has blonde hair - and the sinking feeling returns to his gut.
The suns are going down and she's been missing too long. Somehow, though, he can hear her voice in the back of his mind, scolding him for having such a negative attitude. She right, he realizes. Thinking the worst isn't going to help her get found any faster. The sooner they know what's coming, the better the chance they can save more lives.
He isn't going to let this nightmare get the better of him.
