El stood at the door and took a breath, but did not speak. Max was still, and she did not want to wake him up. But, the dream made her feel bad and she did not want to sleep solo right now. She took slow steps to the small bed and slid in next to her son.
"Mama?" Max said in a breath.
"Go back to sleep, Max," El told him. She laid back on the bed and took a breath, then let her eyes close. Max felt a new warm and curled up next to her. El let a smile slip and put an arm over Max. Now she could sleep.
She was glad to be on this trip, and more that he was with her. But, El did want to be home right now. She had made a plan if Max had a bad dream, but there was no plan if she had one. For now, she would hope that Max could keep her bad dreams back, like his plush doll did for him.
It took a long time for her to find sleep, as she thought on the dream - a time she did not want to go back to - and El knew that it was time to talk it out. She would have to, to get sleep the rest of the trip.
Once she made this choice, El was up to sleep, and the rest of the night brought no old thoughts.
