Disclaimer: The original characters of The Wizard of Oz belong to L. Frank Baum and their respective actors. The current characters of Tin Man belong to Sci-Fi, the movie folks and their respective actors. The OCs are mine and bizarra's. And, now gatechic's, by default. Garrett & Travis Cain belong to gatechic and are, as always, used and abused with love. ♥

Dree watches from outside the corral as the twins ride their horses. Daddy is with one of them, while Grampa is with the other, and every time one of them looks her way, she gives them a bright grin and waves.

They're both younger than she was the last time she rode a horse - well, there have been a few times, since, when she's been forced onto the back of one of the older horses - but neither of them have any fear. She should be more afraid of them being up there, but she isn't. They're far more resilient than she ever was at that age, with everything they've been through.

Dree knows that Daddy and Grampa won't let any harm come to either of them and, in a way, she's actually jealous. She wonders, sometimes, if she would be as excited to ride a horse had her childhood turned out differently.

If her mother hadn't been thrown from the horse that day, Dree's grandfather wouldn't have gotten off the one they were both on, leaving her alone in the saddle. Had her mother's illness not come to light following the accident, Dree might not have grown up terrified of horses for the rest of her life. Had her mother survived, Dree might not have taken the path laid out for her, which means she wouldn't have met her husband or had their children.

Dree knows that her life has followed the path it was meant to, but she can't help wonder, at times, what might have been. She also knows that not everything she remembers actually happened to her. Her fear of horses, not as strong today as it always was, is one of her greatest... but she was never actually on that horse, all those annuals ago.

That's an uncomfortable side-effect of the immortality.
