Um, actually -- you've hit a really big pet peeve of mine. I get really pissed off by those videos.
90% of the time, the pictures they use were just randomly found online on pixiv or whatever, and they don't contact the artists at all or note who drew them in the first plce.
I have a few friends active in the Japanese fandom, and their work has been ripped for these videos several times. I've had it happen once or twice myself. They try their best to talk to the people, but there's a sense of entitlement in some fans and they get annoyed or overly defensive.
It's the same with icons and other graphics. People just take fanart from asian websites and ignore notes (often in english) that say "don't repost this art anywhere". It's gotten to the point where people are like "oh, I need art of something for my music video/layout/etc - i'll just go to pixiv and get some"
IDEK. I'd be happy to rant more, but... this kind of thing tends to cause wank on some sites. Ugh, it really pisses me off though.
It's a shame. >:( I've never had it happen myself (the perks of drawing funny pictures rather than pretty ones, I suppose), but I imagine I'd throw a tantrum if it ever happened.
I've even seen some people using a picture where the text "Do not use this picture outside (website to which it belongs)" remained on the image... it's as if they can't read, or something.
Honestly, I think the only reason my pictures have ever come up is because it was a rare pairing or character, and since i posted it on pixiv, people were like OH I CAN JUST TAKE IT. - that's the attitude that pisses me off more than anything else. :'/
... Gosh, that just blows my mind, i don't understand how people can just.. willfully ignore a message like that when it's stated so clearly in ENGLISH, even on the image itself..?! It's like uploading something drawn by someone else with their signature still on it... I mean, there are people like that for sure, but it just smacks of stupidity. :T
It's people like that who make people have big watermarks with the test "NO, YOU MAY NOT TAKE THIS!!" and ruin the viewing pleasure for the rest of us. :'( I also know this Swedish woman who draws her own characters in the Cats The Musical style and has to write in the artist's description every time that her characters are not for use in any kind of roleplaying. Which I imagine is just as annoying as having your picture on another person's YouTube video.
I don't mind the world. I mind a lot of the people in it, though. I say the same about Norway, really. I do love my country to absolute bits and pieces but a whole lot of the people in it can just... well, jump into any of the fjords, and I wouldn't mind. :')
