Challenge:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn your music player on and turn it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble/ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
Pairing: Buffy/Faith
Rating: PG-13
Words: 2071
A/N: I confess, I lingered a little. I'm too OCD to leave things hanging!!!
1. Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Faith wiped the rain from her face, the light from the window dimly lighting her pained features. She watched as Buffy clutched Willow, tears streaming down her face. Xander sat beside them, gently rubbing Buffy's back.
“Does it have to be like this?” Faith looked up at Giles, tears forming in her own eyes.
“I'm afraid so.” He said, glancing inside the house. “I'm so sorry Faith.”
The brunette slayer bowed her head.
“I just wish I could've told I loved her, you know?”
Giles nodded and motioned towards the waiting car. Faith nodded but turned back to the window.
She exhaled deeply, making the glass fog over, before tracing a heart with her fingers.
“I love you, B.”
2. Butterfly - Crazy Town
Buffy tossed back yet another shot of some alcohol she could no longer identify. She was tired. She laughed, remembering how she thought that, after Willow had awoken the rest of the Slayers, she would finally get a break, a rest, hell, a vacation. No luck though.
She felt a tap on her shoulder and a breath on her ear.
“Looks like you need to let loose a little.”
The voice sent shivers up her spine and she closed her eyes reveling in it. A hand found hers and she found herself being led to the dance floor.
Limbs entwined, before long so did lips and tongues. Buffy sighed.
“Told ya B, gotta learn to let it go.”
3. Bitch - Meredith Brooks
Faith leaned against a tree and pulled out a cigarette. She put it in her mouth and lit it, counting back from ten in her head. 3...2...1...
“What the hell Faith?” Buffy stormed out of the house.
Faith closed her eyes, not responding.
“Can't you ever be anything but a complete bitch?”
That got her attention. She opened her eyes and stared down the blonde.
“Can't you ever be a complete bitch?” She said. Buffy's eyebrows furrowed. “You're always miss do-right, all for the greater good. Aren't you ever bad?” Faith licked her lips seductively.
“Aren't you ever good?” Buffy retorted. Faith smiled to herself.
“What if I had a crazy idea that would make us do both at the same time?” She said, taking a step towards the blonde. Buffy's mouth opened and closed a few times but she had no words. Without warning Faith grabbed her and pulled her to her, lips crashing together. Buffy stiffened but soon was grabbing on to Faith, wrapping her arms around the other girl, hands in her hair. The pulled apart, breathing heavily.
“Wow,” Faith said, her chest heaving, “who knew, Barbie can be bad.” Buffy smiled.
“Well I'm afraid I'm unsatisfied.” She said, smirking like a certain brunette, “you're going to have to do a little more convincing before I believe you're good.”
Faith smirked right back at her before their lips met once more.
4. One Week - Bare Naked Ladies
Faith crashed on her bed and sighed, rubbing her face roughly.
“She's crazy!” She yelled to no one in particular.
She'd just left Buffy's. The blonde had called earlier asking Faith to come “hang out”, so Faith went. If she'd known “hang out” meant talk about boys, clothes and make-up she wouldn't have gone at all.
“Why don't you like the things I like she says.” Faith jumped up, talking to herself. “Why can't you take things seriously? What do you mean you don't want to hear about my newest boyfriend? Why? WHY?”
The phone on the bedside table rung, only one person had this number. Faith snatched the phone up off the receiver.
“Because I love you!”
5. All Star - Smash Mouth
“So let me get this straight.” Faith said, putting a hand to her chin feigning thought, “you're sayin' that if I do this one, this one thing, I'm free and clear. No prison, no tarnished record. I'm good to go.”
“That is correct Faith,” Giles said, steepling his hands in front of him.
Faith smiled to herself. “G-Man, you got yourself a deal.”
Two Weeks Later
“Faith, can you get my back?” Buffy turned to her, holding out the sun screen.
It was completely unrealistic and Faith had no idea how or why it had happened but somehow chaperoning Buffy on her trip to the Caribbean had gotten Faith out of the clink and off the hook.
'It's about time someone up there started likin' me,' she thought to herself.
“Faith.” Buffy interrupted her thoughts. Faith smiled.
“Sure thing B.”
6. If You Could Only See - Tonic
“You don't have to do this Faith.”
The brunette Slayer kept her back turned.
“Yes I do Angel.” She said, her voice thick with emotion.
“Faith this is a suicide mission! Someone else can do it!” He said angrily.
“No one else is good enough!” She screamed, rounding on him. “The only person who is, is Buffy. I'm not gonna let her do this.”
“Why? What's the point?”
Faith smiled sadly.
“Because maybe there's somethin' that I'm gonna tell her before I go, and maybe, just maybe doing it will prove that somethin' to her.” She said, staring somewhere to the right of Angel.
“And if it doesn't?”
Faith shook her head, “that's the obvious A. That's what I'm expecting.” Angel regarded her carefully. “The bigger question is...what if it does?”
7. Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
Buffy opened the door, wondering who on the Earth would be knocking on it at 3 in the morning. Her breath left her in one fluid motion.
“Faith?” She said, her voice floating into the night. The brunette slayer stood before her, smiling slightly.
“Hey B.”
Buffy grabbed the other girl, hugging her tightly. She pulled back slightly holding Faith's head in her hands, “where have you been? Where did you go? Why did you leave like that?” She said, rocketing off questions left and right. Faith grabbed Buffy's hands gently.
“I've been around B. I've learned things about the world, about myself, about everything.”
Buffy frowned, noticing the cuts and bruises adorning Faith's face.
“What happened to you?” She whispered, “Why aren't you healing?” Faith looked away.
“I lost my powers B.” She said. Buffy's mind clouded with confusion.
“Wh-what?”
“I'm not a slayer anymore.”
8. Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind & Fire
“Look I'll get you the money, just give me a few more days.” Faith grunted, as yet another fist collided with her cheek.
“We've given you more than enough time Faith. Time's up.” Faith heard a door open somewhere else in the warehouse. “The boss is here to deal with you personally.” Faith's pulse raced. She had a fleeting fantasy that somewhere there were chicks with super powers who could totally fight their way out of situations like this. Of course those chicks probably were smart enough to not get into situations like this too.
Faith looked up hearing hard soled shoes approach across the cement floor. So here was 'the boss'. He had a baseball bat in one hand, how original. He approached Faith, hitting his palm with the bat menacingly.
“Time's up Faith.” He said, his voice thick as gravel. Faith closed her eyes as he raised the bat but the blow never came. She heard a grunt and the bat fall to the floor. Opening her eyes she caught sight of a small blonde effectively and efficiently kicking the crap out of the boss and his goons. She danced, or so it seemed to Faith, around the room, disarming them before rendering each and everyone of the unconscious. Finishing with the last one she turned to Faith.
“Who are you?” Faith said in awe and appreciation. Not only could she kick major ass but she was also totally hot.
“I'm Buffy,” the blonde said simply, “and I'm here to save your life.”
9. The Sign - Ace of Base
Faith strolled through the mass of people. Yes, she strolled, everyone moving out of her way to clear a path. She approached the bar and before her hand could touch the counter a drink was in her hand. She downed the beer casually before moving to the dance floor. She did her usual thing, moving and gyrating, catching everyone's attention. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a guy bearing down on his...girlfriend, she guessed. Faith sighed and made her way over to the couple. As she approached, her assumption was confirmed.
“Hey douche bag,” she said, tapping him on the shoulder. He whipped around, glaring at the brunette.
“What did you call me?” He growled.
“You heard me.” Faith said simply, “now why don't you leave this girl alone and get the fuck out of here.”
“This is my girlfriend.” He said, grabbing the blonde roughly. She winced and that was the last straw for Faith. She grabbed him by the front of the shirt, using her Slayer strength to heave him up off of his feet. With one hand she cut off his air supply.
“One, you don't deserve her, two, don't you ever touch another girl like that, three, if you do ever touch another girl like that I'll make sure you lose the things that make you a man, you understand me tough guy?” For added emphasis she grabbed his crouch area roughly with her other hand. He nodded, sweat beading profusely on his forehead. “Good.” She said, letting him down. He grabbed his coat and stalked out of the club. Faith turned to the girl.
“You ok there sugar?” She said, looking the girl up and down approvingly. The blonde nodded, and seemed to be appraising Faith as well.
“Can I buy you a drink?” She asked slowly.
Faith arched an eyebrow. “Only if I can buy you one too.”
10. Save Tonight - Eagle-Eye Cherry
Faith opened her door, having seen who it was through the eye hole.
“B?”
The blonde was soaking wet, eyes red with tears, a bag clutched tightly in her hand.
“Can I come in?” She said softly. Faith nodded, moving aside to allow Buffy entrance.
Once inside Faith grabbed a towel from the bathroom. She pulled it around Buffy's shoulders and rubbed the blonde's, trying to get some heat in the smaller girl.
“Buffy,” she said, using the blonde's full name for once, “what's going on?”
“Can I spend the night with you?” She asked, not answering Faith's question.
“Sure,” Faith said, shrugging, “but wh-”
“I just,” Buffy interrupted, she reached into the bag she was carrying and produced a bottle of wine, “I was supposed to go on this date and I got to his place a little early and he was fucking some slut on the couch, I saw him through the window and...I just I didn't know where else to go.” Faith's eyes darkened. She didn't know who Buffy's current squeeze was, but she'd make sure he regretted doing that. Buffy drew the towel tighter around herself at the same time stepping closer to Faith, her nose practically resting on the brunette's shoulders.
“I'm about to do something really horrible.” She whispered.
“I've see horrible B. You don't do it.” Faith said, placing her hands on Buffy's waist tentatively.
“I need someone Faith,” Buffy started, “I need someone to make me feel good, to be there for me, to treat me like I'm the only person in the world. To hold me and...” She paused momentarily, “...and...kiss me, and love me.”
Faith couldn't remember entirely what happened next, it involved getting Buffy out of her wet clothes, opening the wine and messing up the bed.
Hours later they lay there, tangled up in each other, two souls intertwined. Buffy sighed and Faith kissed her forehead lovingly.
“What if this is only for tonight?” The blonde Slayer murmured. Faith thought for a minute.
“If this is only for tonight...I don't want tomorrow to ever come.”
