Favorite fictional "lady" detective... hands down, Trixie Belden. Anybody heard of her? It was a mystery series similar to Nancy Drew, but with much more realistic (i.e. FLAWED) characters, written in the late forties and they reissued the books many times, including the last five years. My mom read them when she was a kid in the fifties and ( Read more... )

Hi! I read your answer on Writer's Block, and YES, I've heard of Trixie Belden and LOVE LOVE LOVE the series! I'm actually re-reading it right now! It's nice to know there's still fellow Trixie lovers out there!!

I was hoping that someone had heard of the series. Compared to most stories today, the characters are beyond tame, but the villains arn't, which I appreciate. Still one of my favorite series. Which book is your favorite? I have a couple and love #9, the Happy Valley mystery, and #12, the one in New York with the little idol. #12 is my favorite of all time. It's funny, my mom loves #9, but #12 totally scares her and she won't read it!

Hm...which one...well, # 32 The Mystery of the Whispering Witch is probably it. I also like The Mystery of the Queen's Necklace and The Mysterious Code. There's so many of them that I don't remember which plotline is which! I'm currently re-reading the whole series and I'm only on #8 The Black Jacket Mystery, which I think is my LEAST favorite!! I don't remember #12, but I bet when I start to read it I'll remember! I had the whole series as a kid and obsessively read them all. My mom gave them all away when I moved out and I got most of them from eBay except one or two. The last two, I think, because they're like $100 each on eBay!!!

I kind of had mixed feelings about the Black Jacket mystery, but once I'd read it, I enjoyed it more, if that makes any sense. My mom kept all hers and I've found various sets on eBay over the years. The later ones are hard to find, but they get kind of wierd at the very end, like they are having a hard time maintaining the storyline. It's nice that they are reissuing them now; I tend to read the newer copies more because they are in better condition!
