One thing I've noticed lately is that some great hit songs actually feature ridiculously overblown, even "experimental"-sounding panning.

I listened to Blitzkrieg Bop in headphones and realized that despite being a way simple song, the panning is realy weird:

• drums everywhere (I think more kick and snare on the right, more toms on the left)

Last week, I was playing around with audio recording in Ardour (a great audio app) when my sound card started acting reeeeally weird. JACK died, and I couldn't restart. In fact, *no* audio worked. Any app that wrote to the sound card would just hang indefinitely ( Read more... )

A few weeks ago, I bought a Dell Mini 9 from ghostfaceposta; it arrived Tuesday. I was kind of busy, so I didn't get around to poppin' Ubuntu on that sucker until today.* I'm really impressed so far - Ubuntu runs smoothly, including nice smooth compiz graphics, and the audio jack is 1000% better-sounding than the crackly, crappy one on my Dell Dimension ( Read more... )
