They're not married. It just seems that way. John Shea and Margaret Colin, who played Adrian Grenier's parents in "Adventures of Sebastian Cole," and teamed in the feature "A Broken Sole," have joined the cast of "Gossip Girl" as Blair's (Leighton Meester) parents.

Entertainment Weekly 11/20/07: John Shea ''Gossip Girl'': Psst...Did You Hear?
During the episode filming today, tortured princess Blair is hanging with her recently outed, frequently absent father (John Shea), who's brought his Boy Toy along on what was supposed to be a quality afternoon with his daughter. As Boy Toy skates past, Blair looks up from her Sidekick, shoots a chilly glare, sticks out an ice-skate-clad foot, and...splat.

USA Today 12/18/07: John Shea Critic's Corner Wednesday
By Robert Bianco, USA TODAY Updated 12/27/2007 8:42 PM
There's nothing particularly traditional about Christmas with Gossip Girl (CW, 9 ET/PT), unless you count bad behavior among your traditions. The worst misbehaving comes from Blair (Leighton Meester), who divides her time between worrying about Chuck spilling their hookup secret and working to separate her father (John Shea) from his boyfriend (William Abadie).

AOL TV 11/17/08: John Shea Gossip Girl: The Magnificent Archibalds
by Isabelle Carreau, posted Nov 17th 2008 9:00PM
Another John Shea appearance! I wouldn't be against to him moving to the Upper East Side with his French boyfriend. As showned more than ever this week, Blair needs her parents near by to support and love her. Having her father be an ocean away is not best for Blair to continue growing the conscience she received as a gift last week. Plus, having Papa Waldorf and his boyfriend try to raise Blair with Eleanor and Cyrus could provide fun storylines!

Wet Paint 11/21/11: John Shea New Royal Wedding Scoop! Gossip Girl Season 5 Spoilers: Will Blair Make It to the Altar?
The biggest news? Blair’s gonna make it down the aisle. Guest-star John Shea, who portrays Blair’s father, Harold, said filming of he and Leighton Meester’s trip down the aisle was emotional, saying, “When you see her, it sort of stops your breath. And then as we approach the altar, there’s the whole cast, everybody who’s been there for all these five years.”

Wet Paint Examiner 12/22/09: John Shea Actor John Shea plays Blair Waldorf's affectionate, homosexual father, Harold Waldorf, in the CW's Gossip Girl. The affection carries off-screen, it seems, as Shea compliments Meester on her success in a recent interview at the premiere of The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond. The YouTube clip is attached below. While it is a shame that the interviewer points out Gossip Girl as though it were the most prestigious thing in the actor's resume (which, I assure you, most certainly is not), the question does lead to a very warm recollection of Meester's impression on Shea. A quick transcript reads:
Shea: Well I have to say I love Leighton Meester. I know a lot of people think she's something like her character, but she's not at all - she's a real sweetheart and as the world has discovered now with her music, she is multi-faceted. And I can remember even in the first season she was telling me about the fact that she was composings song and I said, "well, like what?" And she started humming a few things and then playing it on her iPod. I went, "oh my God, girl, you've got to go back to the studio." And now, of course, she's got songs on the charts.
Interviewer: Yea, top 10 songs.
Shea: I'm not surprised. You know, because she's really - she's the real deal. I remember when I met her, I said, "you know, you remind me of someone I can't figure out who it is yet." She said "well, tell me when you [figure it out]." And I finally figured it out. I said, "you know, you remind me of young Bette Davis." That's who Leighton Meester is. She is that fascinating, you know?

Xfinity 1/30/12: John Shea ‘Gossip Girl’s 100th Episode: Will Blair Become the Princess Bride?
by Sara Bibel | January 30, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Tonight, the show celebrates its 100th episode with Blair’s (Leighton Meester) royal wedding to Belgian prince Louis (Hugo Becker).
....
One of the episode’s most emotional moments involves both Blair’s father, Harold (John Shea) and stepfather Cyrus (Wallace Shawn) preparing to walk her down the aisle together. Safran believes, "Them putting the veil on her is one of my favorite images we’ve ever had. She looked so beautiful and so happy.”
