David Halberstam died in an automobile accident on April 23, 2007 in Menlo Park, Calif. His resume includes 21 books and culminates with his final book, "The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War," published posthumously on September 25.

The evening will also feature personal stories from Nantucketers who counted Halberstam as a friend, such as attorney Foley Vaughan and actor John Shea. A reception will follow.

- "David Halberstam Tribute: 'The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War'" takes place on Saturday, October 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Nantucket Atheneum. Event is free with a ticket, which can be picked up at the Atheneum or reserved online at www.nantucketatheneum.org.

In the fall of 2007 colleagues and peers of David Halberstam, who was killed in a car accident in April of 2007, conducted the book tour he would have done. The Atheneum joined sixty other literary institutions and book stores nationwide. Steve Sheppard served as MC. Nat Philbrick read an excerpt from the book, Foley Vaughan and John Shea talked about their friendships with David Halberstam and Lawrence Coles, group spokesperson for a color guard of nine Korean War Veterans in attendance that night, spoke about why the book was important to him and his experience as a veteran.
