Reality is sinking in for Bill and Helo - Gaeta's gone & they're having to deal with his physical ghost. I think Adele and Topher really don't anticipate how knowing the active before would change things. The other customers never had a personality to put with the active fulfilling their need. None of the other handlers ever handled someone they new before. If the active was a literal tabula rasa, then the handler-active relationship was a metaphorical one. It's not this time. Even this early in the story, it's clear that's a game changer.

Thanks. It is a weird thing, I think, that they know Gaeta. In fact, I think that's part of what happened with Kara. It just never occurred to Bill that Dr. Stevenson would want to see Kara, because he knows Gaeta would never want to see Kara. It was a lot of fun to write. :)

YAY COTTLE YAY! Bill, if you spent a little less time drinking and brushing your teeth, maybe you'd have thought of the shawl. @@

How much do I love that the doctor imprint bosses Cottle around? HEE.

I love that you get to play with all these new characterizations.....though it's a little sad-making having a story about Felix where Felix isn't really there. :-/

It took me longer than it should have to realise that the weird brain-wave thing with Sam is, of course, him being a Cylon...

"I do the talking," Gaeta told Topher. "You're obviously not good at it. I know the man's a Cylon, but she's his wife. Have a little courtesy."

*dies laughing*

Whoa whoa whoa! Sam becomes Active!Paul! niiiice.

makes you wonder about if the Cylons can be imprinted, doesn't it?

oooOOOOoooooh. I never thought of that.

You know, I thought about that when I posted the fic to gaeta_squee. Gaeta's body is in every chapter except the prologue, but Gaeta himself is in Chapter 1, Chapter 9, and the Epilogue, and that's really it.

Gaeta bossing Cottle around was so much fun though. :)

Wow, Gaeta vs. Cottle? So immeasurably awesome. And way to sneak in a light moment! I hardly thought it possible in this fic. ;)

You've really captured just the right feel of the actives inhabiting their personalities right off the chair. It was just great. And Gaeta ordering Cottle to put out his cigarette? So much win.

Is Dr. Stevenson an OC or a minor character I'm forgetting, btw?

I couldn't believe it when I saw you were going to have Felix barrel over and start engaging Kara. WTF was Bill thinking not telling her in advance what was going on? What the hell was he thinking in just throwing up his hands and letting that meeting happen without prepping Kara? *shakes head*

And speaking of WTF, Gaeta's going to clean up the mess he made???? Grr...Bill. When did you ever consider making Sam clean up the mess he made shooting Felix??? Making Felix operate on him to save his life under those circumstances actually disturbs me, even though I know Felix was such a good guy, he would have done whatever it took to save Sam's life. Thanks. :)

I think Bill didn't realize that Gaeta WOULD speak to Kara. He's not quite getting yet that this isn't Gaeta. Dr. Stevenson would talk to Kara. :)

When did you ever consider making Sam clean up the mess he made shooting Felix?

Heh- this is true. It's probably the most frustrating story I've ever written :)

Thanks!

I love how you're showing the moral grays in this story so clearly. Nothing RDM himself was particularly good at. It's almost strange to see it done right in the BSG universe. ;)

Just occurred to me, BTW, you should crosspost this at crossoverfic.

Hee. Thanks. :) I can't make much of a case for this tech in pretty much any other canon, but in BSG, it becomes very, very difficult.

And thanks for the suggestion! I'll do that!
