Keep up the great work! ext_51173 August 7 2007, 05:54:12 UTC
Wow. This is a really heartfelt story. Our first large glimpse into M's past. Makes me more sympathetic to the main character. What a terrible way to grow up!

:) I too love the story. I love the twists... and I think your imagination can throw whatever crazy theory at us that you like :D Just keep it coming. With as many sidebars as you need haha. Keep up the good work. And as someone else said... The thing that sucks about MU is the 24 hour wait... or more on weekends!!! *gasp*

Let me say first, AE, that six minutes after midnight local the server took five minutes to let me read. I AM NOT BITCHING - I know you probably track stats, but I thought that would let you know that you have created the crack cocaine of serial fiction. (No one has yet, that I know, gotten crushed on a dock waiting for MU like they supposedly did for Dickens. Yay Internet ( ... )

It might not be a Grue that gets her... it could be a Beastly Fido.

10 points.
You know you need to get laid more when getting to use obscure monster's-manual type expressions is a treat. (Either get laid more, or stop working for lawyers.)

I wonder if we'll meet any of the MUniverse's attorneys along the way? We know they're likely to exist since there's a developed court system. (Are they patient and wise defenders of justice in the MUniverse? Too much to hope for.)

You know, this brings me to something that has been troubling me. Where are all the mundane majors? Your Business degrees, your pre-law, those sorts of majors. Communication may or may not count for this one, I can't be too sure. But the rest of them are definite fantasy. I realize that is a stupid complaint, especially from me, but shouldn't there be some of those just lying around? Maybe being not human hurts your career prospects. Admittenly, as the premier university for magical education in the Imperium, it is understandable that they would be rare. But should't there be some poor sap majoring in economics somewhere?

Lol, I like your little sidebar announcement. The whole point of fantasy is that your world doesn't have to be the same as our world. Or, they could be the same, and there's simply stuff that neither world knows about yet. It's IMAGINARY. That's why they call it "fantasy ( ... )

Fear anonymous August 7 2007, 07:34:09 UTC
I've seen so many comments about how Mack's grandmother had the right intentions but wrong methods, or that she was some sort of backwater, closed-minded, strict individual, but to be honest, this chapter has really sealed my thoughts on the subject. It wasn't over protectiveness that guided how she raised Mack; it was fear, raw unbridled terror. Mack's grandmother (as far as I can deduce at this point) was so terrified at what Mack might become that she controlled Mack's childhood to the point that we have the Mack of today. The easiest way to deal with fear is to control the source of it, in this case Mack ( ... )

Nope, makes sense to me. It could go either way - overprotectiveness or fear, or even hatred, but fear makes the most sense to me right now.

well if you notice, her grandmother is more of a religious freak of nature than anything. not so much back water as compulsively drawn to a higher power. it makes sense for it to be fear, but it could be some sort of self proclaimed religious right. In most religion, fighting demons is about the highest call, at least in christianity anyway. mabey that's why Mack was sent to her grandmother in the first place. to get rid of the demon part somehow.

Yeah, I've been thinking for a while now that Miss Blaise's grandmother would probably be a lot like the one in the comic strip "Agnes," if Agnes were an EVIL (grandma's perspective) half-demon. It's a wonder the girl hasn't tried to commit suicide, but grandma would probably consider that even worse evil, and Mackenzie would have picked up on this.
