They stood in silence, watching Harry walk down the corridor toward Gryffindor Tower.
Ron reached out and took Hermione’s hand in his. Her resolve crumbled at this simple gesture as she threw herself into his arms.
Sobs wracked her small body. “Oh Ron, it’s over … it’s finally over,” she cried.
Ron held her tightly against his body, stroking her back and hair, while his own tears fell.
Once her tears subsided, she gave Ron a small smile.
He gently cupped her face, “Some things are just beginning,” he assured her with a whisper before capturing her mouth with his.
