Canada's B-day

Nothing makes me home sick like the first of July.  Today is Canada's 144th birthday.  Not long ago at a house party I sang a very funny song - Ontario Sucks - written by my old friend Wes Borg of Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie and I was asked afterwards, "Do you really hate Canada?  Is that why you left?".  This could not be farther from the truth ( Read more... )

Your reasons for missing Canada are the reasons I would love to move to Canada -- except that I won't do so, regardless of how good my reasons are. I'm an American and I *feel* like one. If getting a job in Winnipeg and becoming a Canadian citizen were truly easy, my going across the border would become far less of a big deal and might very well happen. Alternatively, I can keep on voting for politicians, and their policies, when they make it look as though the U.S.A. is going to become more like Canada, but this is hard too, as we need a lot more votes (for universal health care in particular) than I believe we can reasonably expect to get.

I know what you mean. I still consider myself a Canadian and will continue to do so even after I take out citizenship. As Dave Broadfoot said, "Puttin' a codfish in a breadbox don't make it bread." You are what you are and there's nothing for it.

If we were to move anywhere that weren't England, it would be Canada. Beautiful country full of wonderful people :-)
