here's wishing you the bluest sky

Holy crap you guys, Rogue One! Without spoilers let me say that I loved it, with a few minor caveats, and I'm so glad I saw it last night because even though under other circumstances I would be happy to go again today as per the other ticket I bought, given the way it's snowing right now, I'd really rather not make that trek. (I mean, last night I ( Read more... )

I totally, totally agree with you about Jyn being underwritten. I feel like she suffers, ironically, from the curse that plagues too many male rebel-type action characters: she kicks ass and takes names, and that's all there is to her. When compared to a fully-formed character like Rey, that's a waste of both a great actress and a good role.

Agree about all the dudes, too. So many dudes. And it took a loooooong time for women pilots to show up in those scenes. I noticed how long it took, and when I notice these things, they are notable. *g*

Yes, that's exactly what it feels like! I'm sure I'll like her even more on rewatching, though it would be interesting to see the original conception of the character.

I was like, they used Red Leader and Gold Leader from ANH, why not use some of the unused lady pilot footage from then? It was really odd, considering how well they did with having women in the background in TFA.

I am so thrilled about Rogue One, I haven't been able to sit still since watching it this morning.  I finally, really feel my Star Wars obsession reigniting, too.  So I have to ask - are The Clone Wars and Rebels episodes available streaming, do you know???

IT WAS SO GOOD OMG.

I know TCW is on Netflix, and I believe Rebels is too. For TCW, I recommend the chronological order (here: http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder) rather than the aired order, but that's just because that's how I first watched it.

I hope you enjoy it. I have a lot of feelings about it, obviously! *g*

And yeah, it'll be fun to see what kind of fic Rogue One produces.

I think I heard that The Mummy you're thinking of was a comedic remake of a horror monster film. Universal is trying to create a series of reboot movies of their old monster properties, a bit like the MCU. Having Tom Cruise in it just makes me even less likely to go see it.

That's true, but action-comedy is a much better tone for that sort of story, imo, than thriller that takes itself too seriously.
