Yesterday, I notarized some documents for one of my co-workers so she could become a minister in order to officiate at her daughter's wedding (I was going to say "so she could marry her daughter" but I know how you lot would take that), and today she showed me her certificate of ordination (or whatever it's actually called) plus she gets a " ( Read more... )

If you're just using it for internet and writing and not games and such I would stick with the cheaper option. It will get the job done just fine. Those things do last a long time. That's why they're worth the money.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking.

I have both a Pro and an Air bought about 8 months apart. The Pro is way heavier, so it's honestly not great for carrying around, and its battery doesn't last as long. It has greater memory capacity but runs everything much slower than the Air - the reason has been explained to be in terms of different types of memory, but I always forget the details and jargon. Overall, I think the Air is superior in every respect except one: it has no DVD drive (unlike my Pro). I don't know what the specs are for the current machines but based on my personal experience I strongly recommend the Air.

Interesting.

The DVD drive is not necessary for me - I can't remember the last time I used the one I have now.

Thanks!

I always end up with the pros -- I need the CPU, they seem to last the longest, and I need the side plugs to hook up to my TV and externals and stuff. Plus honestly I don't carry it around much and I set it to region 2 to watch my Japanese DVDS. Plus they just...idk, feel sturdier.

I think 3bro's new one is an air and he seems happy enough, though.

One of my friends told me a little while ago that the plan is to make it so that the pros don't have the drive/side ports either and I was just like, ugh fuck you apple, I have shit I need to plug in here for christ sake.

Yeah, the minimal number of USB etc. ports is really unfortunate. Especially since I've never found a hub that really worked well. I don't mind not having the DVD player, but the other stuff does give me pause.

I have a 3 year old Air & I love it. I went refurbished, even, so it was a little cheaper still. I use it for internet, tunes, writing, and streaming to the tv (plugged in, that is, Chromecast gets a little laggy.)

I bought an external drive because I do still buy CDs, but I haven't actually used it yet for reasons that have nothing to do with the computer and everything to do with life.

That sounds about like what I'd use it for, so that's good to know!
