Today is my dad's 80th birthday! He says he's feeling good, so we're all thankful for that. We're taking him out to dinner tomorrow (and my brother ordered a rum-soaked cassata for the cake afterwards), but I'm still trying to figure out what to bake for him. My big excitement in last week's Elementary was having it start a few blocks from my family home (though what it actually is doesn't quite make sense for the story. Going that direction on that railroad crossing would take the car to the gates of All Faiths Cemetery, which closes at 5 p.m.). My dad was so excited to see it that he called me. *g*

Wow. Incredible dessert options. Have you made them all before? I copied the one for Magic Custard Cake. If I try it I will experiment with making it super-low-carb. I use Almond or Walnut flour for sweet things. I wonder if almond/coconut milk will work. I've read that it doesn't work for making boxed pudding but I don't remember why.

Anyhow, they all sound great. I urge you to make the easiest one and concentrate on making the most of the family get together.

I had made none of them! They were all new choices, though most are from sources I trust. I ended up making the black bottom cupcakes, since they were easy and I had all the ingredients on hand.

Even if I normally used nut products, I wouldn't have with any of these, because my niece is allergic, so I try not to use any nuts in things that are for general family consumption.

I enjoyed the B-plot of last night's Elementary and wish it had been the A-plot, which was a bit too nasty to enjoy, imo. I wish the show would occasionally throw in a crime that isn't murder.
