what you gonna do when the flames go up?

After reading the AV club recaps of the BSG mini and "33," I got nostalgic, and started rewatching, and then I couldn't stop, because it's always so compelling, even knowing how it ends (and my complicated feelings about the end). So I just finished through Resurrection Ship part 2, and honestly, if they'd ended the show there, it'd be a pretty ( Read more... )

Those were all my issues with BSG too. The G-d thing never bothered me, it was way more than foreshadowed, it was explicitly stated like, five million times. But I can't forgive what they did to Starbuck and seriously, Watchtower is a great song, but I find it way difficult to buy it survived what is essentially eternity.

My favorite favorite favorite was Sharon so her being Eve's mommy pretty much made me handwave everything else.

I loved Papa Adama, man pain and all. Honestly it was the President who started to grate on me by series' end.

Seriously! Like, I don't understand how people didn't think God was going to figure into it when it's all Six talked about for four seasons.

I loved him almost until the end, and yeah, I feel like at a certain point, Roslin also started to wear thin also, but both in ways that seemed legit in terms of characterization.

Yes, they both stayed true to character right til the very end.

After Eight, I loved Chief and his ending made me the saddest, I think.

Starbuck was my absolute favorite, but I did love Helo and Athena, and Adama and Roslin almost to the end. And I never expected to care so much about Tigh.

sometimes when a lot of people figure out what's going to happen means it was properly set up.

YES. This was my issue with LOST, too. Yes, a few people guessed that the island was Purgatory. That's okay. In a longer series, you're going to have die hard fans that guess. Kara as the first hybrid made complete sense ( ... )

Exactly! It means people are picking up the clues you're laying down! That is how telling a story works! Not everything has to be a surprise twist. Sigh. A logical completion based on what happened before is really satisfying.

but Lee Adama's Idiotic Slingshot Into The Sun. I really can't believe anyone would agree that this plan was a good idea. You'd have to downgrade tech, sure, but flinging EVERYTHING into the sun? And saying the problem with New Caprica was that they tried to build a city? That was one of the dumbest lines EVER.Yeah, that was another boneheaded thing to do. Like, so much of the emotional stuff worked for me, but plot-wise it was such a mess ( ... )

God, I still love BSG so much. To this day, however, I cannot forgive Ron Moore for the fuckfest that became his "characterization" of Lee. He's fat! He's not! He's a pilot! He's the President! He says that stupid-ass line about throwing all their technology away (so all the Colonials die within a few years!)

Having heard Eddie Olmos at (too many) Dragon*Con panels, I cannot forgive him for how he hogged the camera and the plot in the last few episodes. We can't get a good, true Starbuck/Apollo farewell because Eddie wants the audience to see Adama throwing up on himself. Really.

/bitter Starbuck/Apollo shipper

Still, when the show is good, it's as good as anything I've ever seen on TV. And I just ignore/handwave the stuff I hate.

(bah. I don't have a paid account and can't access my Starbuck/Apollo icon)

Heh. I don't care that much about Lee, but he was all over the place characterization-wise, which probably contributed to my apathy, but I was angry all over again at Kara's bullshit ending. But yes, when it was good, it was spectacularly good.
