what you gonna do when the flames go up?

After reading the AV club recaps of the BSG mini and "33," I got nostalgic, and started rewatching, and then I couldn't stop, because it's always so compelling, even knowing how it ends (and my complicated feelings about the end). So I just finished through Resurrection Ship part 2, and honestly, if they'd ended the show there, it'd be a pretty ( Read more... )

Those were all my issues with BSG too. The G-d thing never bothered me, it was way more than foreshadowed, it was explicitly stated like, five million times. But I can't forgive what they did to Starbuck and seriously, Watchtower is a great song, but I find it way difficult to buy it survived what is essentially eternity.

My favorite favorite favorite was Sharon so her being Eve's mommy pretty much made me handwave everything else.

I loved Papa Adama, man pain and all. Honestly it was the President who started to grate on me by series' end.

Seriously! Like, I don't understand how people didn't think God was going to figure into it when it's all Six talked about for four seasons.

I loved him almost until the end, and yeah, I feel like at a certain point, Roslin also started to wear thin also, but both in ways that seemed legit in terms of characterization.

Yes, they both stayed true to character right til the very end.

After Eight, I loved Chief and his ending made me the saddest, I think.

Starbuck was my absolute favorite, but I did love Helo and Athena, and Adama and Roslin almost to the end. And I never expected to care so much about Tigh.

Yes, Tigh was a huge surprise for me too!

Oh, Helo. ♥. But yeah, all the Eights, especially Athena had my whole heart for the whole series.

The only character I could not stand was Baltar. I did not understand the fan love AT ALL.

Baltar was both hard to watch and entertaining for me, up until he became the leader of his own little Jesus cult and then I just wanted him to go away. (I was going to say I wanted him to die horribly, but I pretty much wanted that all the time.)

I often wonder if the uproar about the ending had more to do with Baltar and Six living happily ever after (combined with the G-d thing being the key to a Sci Fi series) than finding out nobody really had a plan. (Did anyone actually believe there was a plan?!)

Could be - there was a lot of nerd rage going around at the time.

I knew there was no full series plan, but I'd hoped they'd had something more coherent in mind for the endgame.

I actually liked the Big Final Five Reveal thing- that was a way unexpected plot twist and it worked on an emotional level too. The actual ending felt meh in comparison.

Yeah, a lot of the emotional stuff worked for me, even at the end. But plotwise it was a big mess.
