For the book you're looking for, you might try interlibrary loan? If it's that expensive, other libraries might not be willing to lend it out, but it would probably be worth a try?

That is a solution I didn't think of, but the same guy wrote another book about WWI that is easily accessible, so I'm not going to worry about it.

I have no idea how far behind the US we are with The Good Wife, and I'm wary of even trying to check that, but I do hope I get to see whatever has happened unspoiled (although my brain is busy speculating like mad).
