there never was a city kid truer and bluer

Going by the number of people who've contacted me about it, clearly I need to catch up on The Good Wife! I'm three episodes behind and avoiding various sectors of the internet so as not to be spoiled. In case the implication isn't clear, DO NOT SPOIL ME FOR THE GOOD WIFE. I WILL CUT YOU.

(now if the VMars movie had had Veronica interviewing at Lockhart Gardner or Florrick Agos, I would have found that much more believable. I still want a million stories about Kalinda/Veronica: Ethically Dubious Lady Detectives. I am just saying. I also still want Veronica in Gotham because Veronica v. Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson would make my life.)

I thought about catching up last night, but instead, I went to bed. I mean, I literally got home from work, took off my shoes and work clothes, and crawled under the covers. I woke up at around 9:30, brushed my teeth, put on my pajamas, and went back to bed. And slept until my alarm went off, so, 13 hours in total. I've still got this annoying cold, but at least I feel like a human being again - that was in question for most of yesterday, when I mostly felt like some kind of mush that had been run over by a truck.

Speaking of Gotham, tangentially, apparently Donal Logue has been cast as Harvey Bullock in that new show of that name. I still feel like this show is not going to be what I want, i.e., a real adaptation of Gotham Central, which you should all read ASAP if you like police stories with occasional superheroes in. (Though possibly you should also read No Man's Land first, so 1. Renee's story pays off properly, 2. you can understand why I love Huntress and am sad about what Arrow has made of her*, and 3. you can see what a mess TDKR made of a similar story. Also,
fox1013 if you are reading this, you should read the Grant Morrison run of Batman & Robin so you get the full effect of Damian Wayne, assassin baby turned Robin. Just ignore whatever's happened in the reboot.)

* You know I love Arrow and recommend it for all your televisual superhero needs, but I don't like what they've done to Helena at all.

I spent some time this morning trying to find a book that is apparently out of print and very expensive used. Eventually, having exhausted the easy search at the NYPL, the advanced ISBN search turned it up, but only for IN-LIBRARY use, so I guess I will just not be reading that any time soon. I added it to my goodreads so I could periodically look to see if anyone produces an ebook version, but I feel like I can manage without it if necessary (it's an overview of WWI; it seems like quite a number of books on the subject only discuss 1914 and the events leading up to it, a la The Guns of August, which is a fantastic read, and Catastrophe: 1914, which is the one I'm reading now, but I'd still like a full overview if possible. I've got at least one on my list, though, so I should be able to manage without the one that is unavailable.)

Ugh, work keeps interrupting and I think the DayQuil is wearing off, so I'm just going to hit post.
