Many, many years later (November 1997, to be exact), I discovered internet fandom

That's when I first discovered internet slash fic and fandom. I wonder what was up about November 1997. *g* I didn't start writing any until January 1998 though.

For me, it was an article in the NY Daily News about X-Files fandom. I thought, if there is X-Files stuff on the internet, maybe there is Homicide stuff, too! And lo, I typed "Homicide: Life on the Street" into my newsreader, and there was alt.tv.homicide!

Maybe you saw the same article?

Nope, so it's just coincidence. When I went to college in the early '90s I'd loan books to a friend to read, and almost all of them had slashy content. Since she knew I was into that and The X-Files and she got onto the internet faster than I did, she found XF slash first and let me know it was out there. It was like the circle of slash or something.

I still write pen-and-paper first and then type it up. It's sl0000w but I find it more pleasant somehow, and the typing up gives a good opportunity for a first proof-read/edit.

I will write with pen and paper when I'm not near a computer and it's too much to type up on my phone and email myself, or when I'm stuck and I feel the need for a change. The problem is that I often can't read my own handwriting if I let it go too long. Sigh.
