Itty-Bitty Orphan Black, an Orphan Black webcomic in the style of Tiny Titans. HEART.

I forgot Almost Human was even on, and didn't realize until I'd switched from football to channel 5 for Sleepy Hollow, so I'm guessing it's not really a must-watch for me, especially since last week I fell asleep during it and didn't really feel a need to ( Read more... )

I saw a lot fans react to Benton Fraser in due South the same way, though they saw their idea of him as the goody-goody, pure-as-the-driven-snow Mountie without a sin as a positive thing to love him for. Actually, he's a character with a canonical dark streak, a sad past that can still smack him in the face and make him resentful sometimes, and an occasional tendency toward passive-aggression. His quest for justice can sometimes have selfish roots, as seen in an occasionally dark Christmas episode. He can be snarky, as himself or through his deaf half-wolf companion.

I and some other fan writers got some sneers and anger directed at us for daring to write him with those traits. (It didn't help that I was part of what they called a "dark wave" of fans fleeing the shipwreck of latter season X-Files. How dare we bring our XF darkness to the sunshiny fandom of due South?)

Some viewers/readers see only what they want to.

You could say the same exact thing about Steve! But people just want "old-timey guy who yells at clouds!" or "goody-goody who disapproves of everybody" or something. I don't even know.

Okay, this is more Chris Evans than Steve Rogers, but I wanted to share anyway.

I rewatched The World's End last night (what, it's a sickness), this time with the commentary by co-writers Edgar Wright (also the director) and Simon Pegg (also one of the stars). There's a scene in which one character buys shots for the whole group and is fairly insistent that they all down a shot. EW says he's known some "shot Nazis" in his time - people who insist on you drinking the moment they want you to drink. Apparently, Chris Evans came to EW's birthday party (this must have been after EW directed CE in Scott Pilgrim) and was insistent that EW get hammered with him immediately. SP: How ironic. He fights all those Nazis as Captain America, then turns around and becomes one himself.

Ahahahaha! I have totally known "shot Nazis" (and been one on occasion) in my time. That does not surprise me AT ALL.

STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE. This post is good and you should feel good. I love that you talked about his anger and his something-to-prove, and the... kind of optimism disappointed Steve must feel over the future. And yes he trusts Natasha and thinks she's so great and he is entirely right and STEVE. ♥
