no one seems to know my name, no one seems to go my way

So I, uh, fell asleep during last night's Almost Human, which does not bode well for the episode. And then Sleepy Hollow was a repeat, so I just went to bed. I don't think I missed anything.

I've wanted to read USM for ages, and I think I have the first trade. So long now, though! I love a lot of other Bendis stuff (you would love Alias), and I know this is his baby.

I have Alias on my list, and also his DareDevil run, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

And really it sounds like a lot, but it's not: ~160 issues of Peter and then, like, 30 of Miles. But you'll mostly just want to keep reading so it goes really fast!

Oooh, thank you for all the thoughts! USM is one thing I keep hearing about but haven't gotten to yet (mostly because I have enough trouble figuring out the main continuity, so adding a whole second continuity intimidates). You make a very convincing argument, though; I will have to bump it up the list. And man, there sure is a lot to be said for giving a competent writer the reins and setting them loose.

Well, the beautiful thing about USM is that it is mostly separate from everything else going on in the Ultimateverse, so you don't need to know anything else! (I certainly regretted reading the Ultimates issues that my reading order list contained, which Peter doesn't even appear in, so I would recommend not doing that.)

It's a straight-up streamlined version of Spider-Man, from Peter getting bit/letting Uncle Ben die, to his own death and then Miles putting on the mask.

I just managed to spoiler myself. Whoops.
Spider Man is one of the only superhero comics I could actually see myself reading (I'm usually not a huge fan. I love Sandman and Hellblazer but they're not superhero comics really, even though I couldn't really say what they are (horrors? Dark/urban fantasy? IDK). I'll bear USM in mind for the day when I might want to give him a look :)

I wouldn't worry - it's not as huge a spoiler as all that, given the genre. Sigh.

I was not a huge fan of superhero comics - though I enjoyed many movies and cartoons - until a couple of years ago. So you might find a character worth making the investment for. The problem then becomes how to stop falling for comics characters. Sigh. I haven't found a solution to that one yet.

I want to like Almost Human because of Karl Urban, but so much of it has been offensive or boring. The thing I do sometimes enjoy about it is sporadic because airing the episodes out of order makes it impossible to have an obvious progression in the relationship Dorian and John have as partners: it makes the characters inconsistent.

Yeah, I liked the two episodes I watched, but it hasn't wowed me except with the FX and that's not enough to get excited about, even though I like all the main actors involved.

On your advice I picked up some bound volumes of Ultimate Spiderman on sale at my local comic shop. You were so right because it is excellent. Although not Captain America. Peter, his friends and family were wonderful, but serious, Ultimates Captain America needs to be bitch slapped by Aunt May every day of the week.

Yay! It's so good and so sad!

But yeah, ultimate!Cap is vile and should be slapped every day.
