Wednesday book meme!

What I've just finished

I did finish off The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway, and I totally recommend it, though I definitely liked Angelmaker better. ( spoilers )

Oh my gosh, you didn't read The Westing Game as a kid? I'm so sorry. You would have loved it! You *so* would have wanted to be Turtle. I think I cut off my long hair after reading it. I tried to get my son to read it a couple years ago but he didn't like it because he said he felt like he needed a chart to keep track of all the characters.

Yeah, I don't know how I missed it, but I never even heard of it until a couple years ago.

Yeah, I can imagine it being really exciting and formative as a kid.

when i was a wee thing, my friend rachel and i were HUGE westing game fangirls. i kind of want to reread it now, altho i'm afraid i'll just think it's stupid.

i too am entirely unsurprised that george clooney lives in clark gable's old house.

I didn't think it was stupid at all. It's very clever and charming, and I can see why it would be formative as a kid.

I went out of my mind for The Westing Game - the wordplay! the fiercely intelligent and unapologetic girl (so like Harriet the Spy!) - and I still reread it fairly often. I'm so glad you read it. (Do I owe you money for it?)

Heh. I got it from the library, and I enjoyed it, so no. I think I definitely would have loved it as a kid.
