I've been here since 7:45 and I am ready to faceplant. At least it's over and it went well. And I got a free bagel for breakfast and one for lunch. Also, free orange juice. Simple things ( Read more... )

After following Fraction's twitter/tumblr for the last few weeks or so, the credit card thing doesn't surprise me a bit. And for whatever reason his balance of humor, gross, not terribly pc, but not also not insulting to women brand works for me. It's very, very strange. Sometimes he gives me whiplash.

I was a little bummed that it wasn't really him, too. I liked the way it worked out anyway because it does show a lot of Clint's character but there was a part of me that thought it'd be a much more realistic take if he'd done it. It's definitely got me questioning what it is in me that wanted him to have done it. Still thinking about that.

The fact that the was willing to help out and maybe get his good name sullied was good for characterization, but yeah, I feel like him actually having done it is more compelling and realistic.

I just have a lot of issues about how the killing/no-killing thing plays out in comics and other media and how so often it cops out because it doesn't want to make the hero morally compromised, but it also sets up scenarios that end up being ridiculous (see: the Joker).

For sure. I am pretty much one of those people that's more or less a pacifist and assassination in real life is complicated and I mostly fall on the side of...no. Mostly. But when the stakes are as high as they are in these books and locking the blood thirsty crazies doesn't actually work? Is it better to let them live or not?

I honestly think that this Clint would error on the side of not but I don't know him that well and have way too much of fandom's MCU "Master Assassin" characterization in my head so maybe I'm wrong. I hope they don't just drop this thread altogether. I'm hoping that the exchange between Clint and Kate as they were grabbing the tape, with her insisting that he told her he hadn't killed anyone and him reminding her that he didn't actually say that...something about that exchange seemed like it's not something she's really going to let go.

Yeah, I think Kate is not the sort to let things go.

I think the question of whether to kill or not can be an interesting one? but I think sometimes comics take the easy way out with the "no killing" rule.
