[apparently automatic crossposting from Dreamwidth is broken? so I'm manually crossposting this. if it shows up again, I'll just delete the later version. sorry for the screwy cut tags!]I am shocked - shocked! - to find out that gambling is going on here! I mean, that the NFL caved and settled with the locked out refs after Monday night's debacle ( Read more... )

Ha, that is true. I love Ed, and Mike Carey as well. There are some other refs I like better than others but those two are my favourite.

I really should get an Ed Hochuli icon. :)

Talk to me about the FitzOsbornes, because I started the first book and couldn't get into it, despite it appearing to have all the things I like in a book... Just finished Code Name Verity and loved it. Have had burning love for I Capture the Castle for years. Adored the potato book club book. Why didn't this one grab me and should I give it another go?

Since I don't know why you weren't feeling it, I don't know what to tell you except that I really loved them - the world expands in the second book, as the family goes to London, if that helps. Sophie and Veronica both get a lot more active instead of reactive and they both grow up in interesting, realistic ways.

Fair point re: not being able to read my mind :-) It's been quite a while since I started and gave up on the first one, and I honestly don't remember what my issues were. Think I'll give it another go now that I'm no longer consistently being woken by an infant every two hours and seem to have regained the attention span required for reading, which could well have been part of my problem.

I've been meaning to say, btw, that seeing you rave over it got me to pick up my husband's giant hardback compilation of Brubaker's Captain America, and I loved it. I'm still catching up with the newer material, but yay, thanks for that!

It's definitely possible that a lack of sleep might have made the book less charming than it actually is! *g* Because I think if you really like I Capture the Castle, it definitely has a similar vibe to it. And it's not quite as soul destroying as Code Name Verity, which was AMAZING but also made me SOB MY FACE OFF.

It's not perfect but it's so, so good in so many ways. Oh Steve. Oh Bucky *sigh*

I would actually like a crossover with the movie and Code Name Verity, so Julie can be off with Peggy Carter having adventures!
