Fruit is so confusing. The plums and nectarines I've bought this summer have been so good, and yet the peaches have been godawful. What's up with that?

Yesterday, I read Year Zero by Rick Reid. It's about how aliens have been illegally downloading and copying Earth music since the 70s, and now because they owe more in copyright infringement ( Read more... )

books, this is captain america calling, plums, gaslight anthem, comics: superman: for all seasons, links, comics: winter soldier, writing is hard!

I heard about Year Zero at the io9 panel at Comic-Con, and it sounded good! I am glad it is.

It was cute! I wouldn't recommend it at hardcover prices, but in paperback - it's a quick read.

The fruit thing is because of the warm winter/awful hot summer, I think? And I've actually had some awesome peaches so maybe you got a bad batch, so to speak? I keep getting the huge white peaches from Westside Market and they are DELIGHTFUL, altho they have that sneaky ripening thing where they are unripe and irritating for like 5 days and then BANG you have to eat them all within 1one afternoon or they collapse into mush. VERY FRUSTRATING.

These peaches felt ripe but were just mealy and tasteless. Sigh. The nectarines and plums have been great, and I've been eating awesome cherries all night, so I don't know... I suppose it's probably the weather somehow.

I had the same reaction with Winter Soldier. Also, Sitwell is a genius? Am I missing some long standing thing or is that new characterization? I enjoyed that friendship, though.

I'm not sure how I feel about Natasha getting brainwashed again but her as a ballerina should make for some gorgeous panels if they continue down that road in the next issue.

I love this quote from that Gaslight Anthem article. I've felt this so many times with awesome people, "Okay, man! Not only do I want to do a record with you, can you adopt me for a little while?" It's so awesome when you get to work with people who give you that feeling.

Yeah, I am not familiar enough with Sitwell to know, but that seemed to come out of nowhere.

but her as a ballerina should make for some gorgeous panels if they continue down that road in the next issue.

I guess the line about her having the moves was foreshadowing.

Hee! Yes.

Completely unrelated to anything you posted, but have you read this? http://archiveofourown.org/series/18228 There are 3 parts, and I'm through the first two. Unfortunately I read it starting at about 1:00 AM and had to literally shove my hands over my mouth to keep from cackling maniacally and waking up the husband and/or startling the cat. There are also some super sweet moments, and lots of Avengers team feels. <3 Read it!

Thanks for the link but those pairings really aren't my thing.

Aww, okay. I will pretty much read anything from Avengers as long as it's well written and everyone stays true to character. If it makes a difference, Part 1 is basically gen silliness (Tony and his robots, among other things) with some slight angst at the end.

Aw, no love for Tim Sale Superman? :-) It does take getting used to, I'll admit. But really, his is the only Superman in comics I really like (which probably says a lot more about me than about Superman and the artists who draw him).

I liked the story a lot! Just not how Clark was drawn.
