you've got the best of me

Ugh, I stayed up too late last night reading A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare, which is a terribly generic title for a pretty good (if completely unrealistic) Regency romance. It takes place in this village where misfit ladies go to spend the summer, and involves a lot of ridiculous hijinks and some overly flowery but still pretty hot sex for our ( Read more... )

A Week to Be Wicked is, IMHO much better than A Night to Surrender, which I enjoyed quite a bit. I absolutely ADORE Minerva and Colin. I'm also quite excited for the third book, which is apparently Kate the music teacher and Sgt(?) Thorne's story.

On the other hand, the author published a related novella--Once Upon a Winter's Eve--that's totally skippable. (As is her Stud Club trilogy--formulaic regency TO THE MAX.)

Yeah, I am already liking it better. And I knew Kate and Thorne would have a story, from the way he responded when she dressed up like a boy in A Night to Surrender, but I'm glad they're getting their own book.

I don't believe I've read anything else by her, but A Week to Be Wicked was recced by someone on my flist and I figured I should read the first one first, just in case.

The first chapter of Kate's story is published at the back of A Week to Be Wicked (if not, it's on the author's website), and it implies some history between them and that Kate is not who she thinks she is. Which means I'm all grabby-hands, because those are two of my favorite tropes in romance.

I think Peter was just so overwhelmed with Neal feels that his IQ dropped significantly.

So true! I loved the episode lots and lots but the plot...yeah.

Yeah, it was very pretty to look at and had some great emotional/relationship stuff in it (EL! SHE IS THE BEST!) but plotwise I was just like, seriously, Peter, did you circle the ACTUAL PLACE Neal is, and then leave that map in your house? REALLY?

right there with you on white collar. (well, except the only thing i can ever remember that i've seen mekhi phifer in is 8 mile.) especially about peter's iq falling THRU THE FLOOR, I MEAN, SERIOUSLY, AGENT BURKE? just... wow, he did some dumb shit. but there was some fine ot3 in there. and apparently the pic peter showed whatshername in the coffeeshop was the prom photo of him and neal.

i actually had a moment during the episode, i think when neal was putting on his new hat, when i thought "he has to be wearing contacts, there's no way his eyes are really that color". to quote crazy, stupid love, it's like he's photoshopped. yowza.

Yes. Which. I dunno. I think people would be less inclined to help? Because then it looks like Peter is chasing his ex who went through a lot of trouble to get away from him. At least, that is how I would read that.

it's like he's photoshopped.

Photoshopped by GOD, according to .

I went on at length in an email last night about the many ways someone was wrong on the internet. Then I pasted in examples. I think I may have temporarily felt better, but I still feel a post coming on, even though I know such things just are better left alone. It's kind of tragic, how strong that compulsion is, to be opinionated.

Yeah, I do a lot of texting to people about how WRONG some people are.

But this person today was not only wrong in her opinions, but ACTUALLY FACTUALLY WRONG. Like, by the numbers and stuff. But I still walked away. Some things you can't argue with.

I occasionally start to post and then I stop, because I feel like sometimes, I don't care if I burn whatever social capital I've accumulated in fandom, but what I really want to say is probably going to hurt my friends as well as the people I think are wrong.
