I'm going to employ my usual habit of trying to avoid most of the fandom as it exists outside of my flist (and even, sometimes, on my flist; I love you, but sometimes even you make me crazy). I keep telling myself I can walk away if it really goes sour (sourer?), and I almost believe it - I've done it before! - but I'm pretty sure that's a total lie. Though maybe not. I'm in a wait and see kind place right now.

This is me in SPN fandom too. I know of the extensive crazy outside my little pocket of flist, but I'm of the "ignore it and maybe it will go away" school of thought so I do ;) The only times I indulge in the crazy is when I go to Dragon*Con and go to the SPN panels. Then it's crazy time all around.

And OF COURSE PUNCHING + MAKEOUTS = WIN. I have decided to love my own of certain tropes and that's definitely one of them :)

Yeah, sometimes I run into it unexpectedly and have to back away, and sometimes I'm a masochist and I click when I know I shouldn't.

Exactly.

your feelings about spn are exactly my feelings about spn. (except that i'm almost totally unspoiled and wish to remain that way, because i freak out ahead of time too and just the fact i do it makes me even crazier, and at this point i'd really rather not know ANYTHING about ANYONE.) and i may actually avoid the bits of fandom on my flist, even tho i too love my flist, depending on how i feel about the premiere and how other people seem to feel.

i'm watching it tonight with a couple friends, one of whom hasn't even seen s5, which should be interesting.

I'm amused at everyone's different strategies for coping with the freakouts. I'm "TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW AT ONCE SO I CAN BRACE MYSELF" but a lot of people seem to be of the "TELL ME NOTHING!" school of thought. I just find that more anxiety-inducing.

I thought violence as foreplay was a pretty common trope in fandom. Esp. among those of us Jossverse ex-pats.

I think it is. It was just interesting to see when it does/doesn't work for someone laid out so clearly.
