L'shana tovah and Happy Eid to those of you who are celebrating!

Today is the first Friday since May that I have to work a full day. Sigh. Woe.

I posted a story yesterday!

Rough and Tumble

I'm so depressed about the Sam storyline it's giving me insomnia and a queasy stomach. Having him out for a whole year means, basically, he was never in the cage at all. There is no meaningful experience there to have changed him or to make it remotely understandable that he would be acting irrationally about Dean. Could they just, for once, let Sam have a sympathetic, emotional storyline instead of giving him the plotty badassery and Dean the emotional reacting? Switch it up, folks.

Well, he could have been changed by the possession by Lucifer, and also his few days in the cage probably equate to a few months down below, so there might be something to work with there, but overall, yeah. Sigh.

I wish the show would do better with Sam. I thought they gave him some fantastic stuff last season but never really explored it fully. I mean, what he learns in DSotM alone already makes him a more mature and compassionate Sam than he ever was before.

Yes, that is Pyro playing Birkhoff. And good point about the number of women; I hadn't thought in those terms.

Yeah. I mean, I don't know if the other girl!recruit is going to be prominent, but I'm hopeful. I'd like to see more of her and Alex being trained together and less of the pasty white kid. And Melinda Clarke being awesome is always fun to watch. I mean, I get the stuff about it being exploitative? But I'm willing to accept the cheesecake if we also get Nikita mentoring Alex and the moral dilemmas that should set up etc.

I was very omfg about the end of Psych. Not like omfg the end of White Collar, and btw, I've not seen you mention Burn Notice lately...because that ending was omfg, too. Must say USA shows went all out in the mid-season/season ending category this year.

I fell behind on Burn Notice and haven't caught up yet. I have about six episodes on my DVR. Maybe this weekend.

Yes, it's been good, so I recommend catching up. I'd apologise for the semi-spoilery comment, but it's sort of a given, knowing the show as we do.

Heh. Yes. Most of BN's endings have been omfg!

Heh, I already did a cranky post about the Sam hate earlier this summer, but yeah this. I can understand disliking the writerly decision there. Or criticizing Sam for thinking that was a good idea, no matter how good intentioned he was. But the Sam hate and the ripping Sam a new one and dismissing him as heartless (seriously, where is that coming from? Even allowing it's a bad decision, heartlessness is not going to be at the core of that decision, that's not how either of the Winchesters roll, FOR FIVE SEASONS, they do misguided things out of love all the damn time) makes *no* sense to me and I suspect I've been seeing an entirely different version of Sam on my tv screen for the past 5 seasons than many people.

Hmph. Speaketh unto the hand, Sam haters.

Hee, thank you. I'm very attached to the version of Sam I've been seeing on my tv screen for five seasons.

He's fucked up and he fucks up. But he has never, not once, given up and lain down to let fate take its course. He makes disastrously wrong decisions and he gets up in the rubble and looks around and starts making new decisions. He gets hooked on vengeance, but he also learns how to forgive. He's not sure that he isn't what's wrong with the life of the people he loves the most. He tries to do good things even when he is convinced that he can't be good. Most of the things he's had faith in have at some point lost faith in him, and he's lost faith in himself for some good reasons, but he never seems to have lost the conviction that some kind of good outcome in the world is possible, even if he can't have it or achieve it. He's often wrong, but he's never not trying.

I was in the depths of despair this morning over spoilers, but I've decided to wait and see.

*g*

Sam is awesome! I mean, he's made some seriously poor choices, but who among us hasn't? He's trying to do better! ♥
