L'shana tovah and Happy Eid to those of you who are celebrating!

Today is the first Friday since May that I have to work a full day. Sigh. Woe.

I posted a story yesterday!

Rough and Tumble
Avatar: The Last Airbender; Ty Lee/Suki; adult; 1,225 words
Suki sees what Ty Lee has to offer.

I picked up this
femslash10 pinch hit because I thought, "Avatar girlslash! I can do that! I even have an idea!" And, er, then I started three different stories and hated them all. Azula is a lot harder to write than you would think. And then I looked at the assignment email again and saw Suki/Ty Lee as one of the pairing requests, and just started writing, and bam! there was a story! I mean, it's sparring followed by sex, which is something there is not enough of in any fandom, and when in doubt, go with the classics. I keep forgetting how amazing Suki is, but I rewatched the second half of season 3 - from "The Boiling Rock" through "Sozin's Comet" and was reminded of her sheer awesomeness. What is it Hakoda says? "That's some girl." Indeed, Hakoda. Indeed.

I enjoyed the Psych summer finale. Someone should cast Franka Potente on one of the many spy shows going around, because she is AWESOME. And Burton Guster is still my favoritest. ♥

Last night, since it was a repeat of that Peter-centric Fringe episode, I watched the premiere of Nikita. I never watched the old series, and I don't recall ever seeing either of the movies, so for me, Alias is the gold standard of current-era spy shows (I was never fannish about it, but the first two seasons, at least, are awesome), and while this pilot had bright spots, it was no Alias premiere. The main bright spot, and the thing that may convince me to keep up with it, even though I will be recording Big Bang Theory and watching Fringe in real time, so I'll have to use other means to acquire it, is that there are four women - FOUR WOMEN - in important roles (two of them are women of color!), and they ACTUALLY TALK TO EACH OTHER. ABOUT SPY STUFF, not relationships. Also, Maggie Q! Melinda Clarke! ♥ And that was Pyro as the geek dude, right?

On the other hand, the men are blah and uninteresting and my interest in 1. Nikita and Michael's ~past~ and 2. Nikita's fridged (or is he?) fiance is minimal. (as an aside, as we were watching, I said to amberlynne, "wasn't Sydney's dead fiance also named Daniel?" and she said yes. Heh.)

I was pleased with the twist that Alex is Nikita's protege, because I did not see that coming, which is unusual and pleasant. Keep surprising me (in the good way), show, and cut way, way back on the exposition, and maybe this could be the start of a steady relationship.

As you may have seen, during Nikita, there was a Supernatural promo. "Trust no one"? Seriously, guys? The CW's marketing department couldn't have come up with its own tagline? I mean, the show has long since outgrown its "baby X-Files" label, hasn't it? (and anyway, didn't it pass it on to Fringe?)

We won't even go into the stupidity of the writing for Sam's hiding his presence from Dean for a year. I knew they were going to do it and I hate it so fucking much I can't even be coherent on the subject. What makes it especially galling is that fandom is already tearing poor Sam a new one over it, because a large majority of SPN fandom hates Sam for reasons that surpass understanding (and no, that's not an invitation to detail them, because fuck you, I love Sam), but to me, it's just a sign of writerly boneheadedness. They could have easily separated them for a year without having Sam do something so dumb. I don't want to call it careless or thoughtless, because I'm sure it wasn't on his part - I mean, I'm sure the writers intend it to be Sam nobly releasing Dean from his obligations so he can live a happy life with Lisa, and the thing is, I AM ALL FOR DEAN HAVING A HAPPY LIFE WITH LISA! I THINK BEN IS HIS KID! Let's not kid ourselves about this! But it just smacks of idiot plotting and "well, we need Dean and Sam to be separated and we need a conflict, so we'll just have Sam walk away instead of letting his brother know HE'S NOT SUFFERING IN HELL ANYMORE." Ugh ugh ugh. *sets fire to the writers*

Otoh, I was happy to see Sam and Dean together! Hopefully there will be hugging following the punching! Punching + hugging! My favorite combination! (My dvds arrived yesterday and last night I watched "Good God, Y'all" and man, when Ellen hugs and then slaps Dean, and he says, "Yes, ma'am," WHY WERE THERE NOT A MILLION PORNY DEAN/ELLEN REUNION STORIES WRITTEN? FANDOM, WHY DO YOU FAIL ME AT EVERY TURN? Oh, I also listened to the commentary on "The End" and man, they crack themselves up, don't they? They also cracked me up sometimes, but I've noticed over the many commentaries on many dvds that I've listened to over the years that they - whoever is doing the commentating - rarely if ever talk about the things I'm really interested in, which is the actual story and why they made the choices they made and what the actors are doing to sell that etc. This one was actually better for that than most - they talked about how Sam was originally going to just be out of hunting, living with a family somewhere, before they realized he should show up as Lucifer etc., and Edlund plugged "The Tick", though he was talking about the live-action version and I think you should all watch the animated version, and now I digress even further, so let me just say that the commentary was fun to listen to, and I appreciated how much they appreciated Jensen's double-turn in the ep, even if they didn't talk about everything I'd have liked them to talk about.)

Ahem. so yes, I am a little excited at the idea of Sam and Dean reunionating and getting back out on the road, and I am going to happily savor the Castiel-free episodes while they last, though I am bracing for horrible fail where Lisa is concerned. Please don't fridge her or Ben, show! Please don't make her a mean shrew who can't understand that Dean needs to go back to saving people! hunting things! the family business! And please don't make Dean a dick who bails on her and the kid after being in their lives for a year! (I have no real wish for Sam except that he continue to be AWESOME the way he was last season. Because let's face it, Sam Winchester >>>> nearly everyone ever.)

Wow, I had a lot more to say about that than I expected. Heh.
