I dunno. Maybe turning 40 is fucking with my head more than I thought, but I have not been feeling well at all the past few days, physically or emotionally. Maybe it's the heat. Or my desire to laze around and do nothing but read, write, and watch dvds, and bake and make ice cream. I am so over having to work for a living. Sigh. My life, so hard ( Read more... )

use of "lover" for a story that's not historical and doesn't refer to someone the main character is having an affair with will turn me off in the blurb, before i've even gotten to the story. i don't know if it's the blurbs i read, but there seems to be a lot of "his lover" and "the lovers" in m/m romance profic, and if you're writing a contemporary story about guys who've been romantic/sexual partners for a long time, you've kind of gone past the "lover" stage. it sets my teeth on edge.

and yeah, i could NEVER buy it from either sam or dean's pov because come on, neither of them could say it with a straight face. argh, people, get to know your thesaurus (and your characters) a little better.

lay down your burdens was indeed a really massive WTF?? finale. i like how they picked up from it in the following season.

Yeah, it really is an unfortunate term, and it was unexpected and really jarred me even more than normal because I wasn't expecting it from the author at all. It's just hilarious to think of Dean thinking of Sam as "his lover."

Yeah, I don't know what it is but the term lover always makes me roll my eyes. If it's over used yeah I tend to stop reading. It's just weird, especially in Dean's head, I mean yeah right, LOL, Dean Winchester thinks the word 'lover', I think not.

because nobody uses it seriously! Also, it has been mocked on SNL and Sex and the City.

I have been stumbling upon quite a bit of fic lately that have included the word "lover" in contexts that make me cringe. Some old, some new, but it started to make me a bit cross-eyed because it has rarely--if ever--worked for me in the fandoms I've enjoyed. It actually jolts me right out of the story.

It really is jarring. I get that some people use it and like it, but almost none of the characters I read/write about would, imo.
