I dunno. Maybe turning 40 is fucking with my head more than I thought, but I have not been feeling well at all the past few days, physically or emotionally. Maybe it's the heat. Or my desire to laze around and do nothing but read, write, and watch dvds, and bake and make ice cream. I am so over having to work for a living. Sigh. My life, so hard.

I read a story the other day by an author I generally like and whose writing I have on occasion admired greatly, and yet this story was... it was rife with things like "his lover" and "their tongues dueled for dominance" and I was like, really? Really? Those are things I associate with new/inexperienced writers, which this person is not. And it wasn't a period or genre piece where you might expect that kind of overheated prose (I could see it if you were writing a bodice ripper). It was very disappointing. I know people always point out exceptions when I say this (and I grant certain exceptions), but I just can't take "his lover" seriously in most contexts, and certainly not in a story from either Sam or Dean's POV. Unless it was mocking. Mockingly, it'd be okay.

Day 22 - Favorite series finaleDay 23 - Most annoying characterDay 24 - Best quoteDay 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new) Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale
"Devil's Trap" was pretty OMG WTF? and a bold move for a show that wasn't sure it was going to be renewed. I also have to give props to "What Kind of Day Has It Been?" because you didn't even know who got shot! And both of them wrapped up in amazingly well done season premieres, which is not always the case with awesome season finales. And while I didn't watch either SPN or West Wing in its first season, I did pick both shows up the summer after their first seasons, so I did have to wait for the resolution along with everyone else.
Another obvious OMG WTF? is BSG's "Lay Down Your Burdens," with the time jump and then the Cylons marching down the center of the settlement like the Nazis taking Paris.
But for this, I think I'm going to go with Fringe and "Over There," because it was a really satisfying OMG WTF?
I mean, as soon as our Olivia dyed her hair, you knew there was going to be confusion and probably an attempted switch etc., but that they actually did it, and Fauxlivia (Altivia?) came back with Water and Peter, and our Olivia is stuck in Walternate's prison, clearly terrified, which, given Olivia's general fearlessness, is even more awful, and Olivia is going to have to figure out how to get herself back (she does have the ability), and Fauxlivia is going to have to deal with Ella and Peter and Walter etc. Plus, there was Charlie! I *heart* Charlie! It's very exciting, and I would like it to be on now.
Day 27 - Best pilot episode
Day 28 - First TV show obsession
Day 29 - Current TV show obsession
Day 30 - Saddest character death
