that criminal minds news has been making me rage all day (or at in what little time i wasn't raging about the latest spn fail, anyway.) all four of the male leads have backstories that lend themselves to being absent for a few episodes every season -- rossi could go on a lecture tour! morgan could go back home for a few weeks! reid could go visit his mom! hotch could, god forbid, take a fucking vacation with his traumatized convenient-plot-point of a son! but nah, we should just eliminate jj after a) we made a huge point of how her position is actually really difficult and it's hard to find an agent who can do it (when she was out on maternity leave) and b) we made another huge point about how she was so dedicated to her job that she cut her maternity leave short. what the actual fuck, cbs?
I know. I just... Rossi solved the case he came back for. If anyone's redundant, it's him. And I like Rossi. I mean, he's not my favorite or anything, but I don't dislike him. Why do we need him around? We've got Hotch and Morgan and Reid. Whereas no one else does JJ's job and she's really freaking good at it. Just. Arrgh.
so, what, they're writing out jj and prentiss so they can bring in another female agent? i was annoyed enough that they were getting rid of one woman altogether and cutting back on another's screen time, but what possible reason is there to replace either one of them with another actress?
and yeah, if it's a financial decision, why couldn't they cut back on some of the guys' screen time too? the men all have EXCELLENT in-character reasons to be out for a few episodes.
right, because any one of the guys will totally jump at the opportunity to get involved with a fellow agent... and the bau will suddenly have an entirely different dynamic from the past five seasons. i don't see this ending any way but badly.
I am so upset about the news. I love the way the team interacts, and I'm so mad that JJ and Prentiss are seen as disposable in this way. The biggest charm of this show is how these characters bounce off each other, and when they lose that they'll lose the show. Maybe that's what they're trying to do.
Right? One of the things I've talked up when recommending the show is that there are THREE WOMEN on the team and none of them fall into stereotypical female roles. To take that away, and replace one of them with someone "fresh" or something (no doubt code for "love interest junior agent in her 20s") is appalling.
It's unbelievable. Wonder where the order came from, CBS themselves, or an internal show decision.
There's been a massive uproar, and the actors are buying into it and directing people to the petition, which is very cool and possibly a little dangerous on the part of those still with the show.
pagetpaget - "Creative Reasons" has been an Executive Bullshit excuse for DECADES. It IS financial. AJ is a dreamboat. And yes, I am hurt, too.
Gibsonthomas - To say we're all mystified and disappointed is an understatement...all the fan support is much appreciated! Stay tuned...

She can be younger and dress sexier and possibly have ~romance~ with one of the men.

The stay tuned is interesting.

It's good to see the cast rallying, though. I don't think it'll do much good if it is a network mandate, but it's nice to see.
