I discovered, after two days of torrential rain, that every pair of boots I own has holes in them.

My sympathies. I found out yesterday that my most comfortable black shoes had a hole in them; fortunately, it was indoors and not when I was walking through puddles.

I feel like, given their age and state of disrepair, tracking down a shoemaker to fix things would be for the most part useless

Probably, although there's something about their look of disbelief when you hand them the boots.
