you might find you get what you need

My hair is thick and knots if you look at it funny, so for years I've used a detangler or leave-in conditioner - usually Infusium 23. I ran out and they didn't have any in the CVS in my neighborhood, so I bought this L'Oreal leave-in conditioner gel, and it says on the bottle that it smells like rosemary and mint ( Read more... )

My hair is rather straight, but pretty thick. It collects static electricity like it's hoarding the stuff. Infusium has always helped keep that under control. Great stuff.

Yeah, I like it a lot and was sad not to see it on the shelf at CVS. but I've ordered some from drugstore.com, so I should be all right.

The L'Oreal stuff works, but the smell...oy.

You use some LUSH stuff, right? Have you ever tried Cynthia Sylvia Stout shampoo or American Cream conditioner? That's what I used for awhile, and the combination is terrific for thick/coarse/wavy hair. Especially the shampoo, which is designed to add weight to unruly hair and make it more manageable. They both smell good, too.

If you don't want to spend the money on the above (which is why I went back to regular shampoo), they also have a deep conditioner hair treatment, H'suan Wen Hua, that smells like cloves and is awesome. I could see a noticeable difference after just one use.

I haven't really tried their shampoos and conditioners, because they are expensive and I tend to have bad luck with new shampoos/conditioners - they often do not work as advertised, at least on my hair.

I highly recommend any care product by Matrix's Biolage line for quality and smell. I've seriously never smelled anything so good. It's addictive.

I will have to give them the sniff test next time I'm in the drug store.

I use a little olive oil periodically, myself. But by and large my hair is pretty happy without conditioner. It is straight and thick and pretty heavy, and I went to a minimally impacting system of care about a year and a half ago to encourage and preserve length. (I'm one of the weirdos growing hair out to their knees.) I never would have believed it before, but what my hair really likes is being washed about once every ten days and olive oil once a month. But hair is the ultimate YMMV.

I have oily hair - it gets itchy and smells bad after two days of not washing it, so I have been hesitant to do anything too radical.

Mine did that. I started washing with much less shampoo (I put it in a bottle with a long tip so I can apply it right to the scalp, and diluted it) and started stretching the wash time by one more day. And gradually my scalp stopped producing quite so much oil, and we settled down to a wash every week to ten days (I don't wash it so much in the winter, as I'm not sweating.)

I honestly wouldn't have believed it was possible if I hadn't done it.

Well, the next time I don't have to come to work for a week, maybe I will try it. Right now, two days is about the limit I can stand to not wash it.

I mean, funerals are kind of engineered to make you cry, so it worked. Not nearly as much as FNL, but that was a whole different kind of thing.
