you're an anthropological trope

I feel like I should have something to say about Bones, but I don't, except that maybe Cam, Angela and Hodgins should have a hot threesome. And also, I don't care what anybody says, I love Sweets. Also, Booth/Brennan makes me all heart-eyed.

As for Supernatural, wow, they totally are smoking crack these days, huh? I mean, I knew that, but wow. ( spoilers for Fallen Idols and for the preview clip )

tv: supernatural, tv: bones

You're right, there's a remove between Sam and Dean and the people they save these days. If indeed there are folks to save, and not just a demon to fight or an angel to evade. Maybe if there's a sixth season, they'll get back to that. That's the reason I'd like a sixth season, to have them back to just being relatively carefree hunters of the supernatural.

I'm also glad we finally cleared up whether Sam knew about Dean breaking the first seal. I assumed he did, because why wouldn't Dean tell him? I mean, back when Dean found out about it in OtHoaP, he was already being honest with Sam about Hell. But it's nice to see him acknowledge that he wasn't blameless. Now all we need to do is clear up the voicemail and get Castiel to 'fess up to also playing a part, and I'll be happy.

They are exactly like a married couple trying to work things out.

I almost fell off the couch laughing at Horatio!Sam, honestly.

I'm not necessarily on board with having a season 6, but if they did, that's what I'd like from it.

Yeah, me, too, though I'm sad we never saw the conversation.

But it's nice to see him acknowledge that he wasn't blameless.

I was afraid we wouldn't get it for a while, so I'm really happy it happened this week, even though it kind of josses the story I'm working on. I will rewrite. *g*

We can hope!

INORITE? *dies*

I just want to add that Paris Hilton was much better than I expected her to be. In fact, her acting was much, much better than expected.

Heh. Yes. Well, she only had to play herself, which is kind of what she does, isn't it?

I mean, I think Dean's been beating himself up over breaking the first seal since he found out about it, but I think he needed to OWN THAT TO SAM.

So much yes. I'm so happy this is finally out in the open. (Now they just have to deal with the phone call and the girl Sam drained...)

I loved this episode! And pretty much yes to everything else in your post.

I enjoyed a lot of things in the episode. I just though the A plot was weak. Sigh. I will take the boys hashing out their relationship issues though. *g*

I absolutely agree with the lack of connecting-with-normal-people. You can see the difference -- the Latina maid and the sheriff are characters with whom, in S1, Sam and Dean would be sort of sympathetically befuddled. Now, they're making mocking faces at the plebes' confusion. They're jaded, and that aspect of it is being played for humor in a way that (IMO) hurts rather than helps the show.

Yes. That's exactly it. They've become jaded in a way that is not working for me in terms of the story. I get that the apocalypse is huge, but the whole point of saving the world is because of the people in it, and they used to get that.

Yeah. That's the main thing I'm worried about this season -- the writers have gotten pretty gleeful about the meta stuff, and I worry about it tipping the balance of the show. I mean, okay, we used to complain just as much about the cheese of the Rescuees-of-the-Week, but where they're going with the storyline -- not heaven vs. hell with the world splitting between, but earth holding off heaven AND hell on its own terms -- the writers need to be looking to their roots a little more if they're going to sell it. I worry that the shiny toy (meta, not their new cosmic dimensions) is distracting them from that truth. But, they've toed the line pretty well, so I'm reserving judgment.

I mean, they're still going to have to work at easing out of the habits of a lifetime, but at least they've identified the main bone of contention and have a goal in mind to work towards fixing it.

Yeah, and you know, here's the thing: they were working on easing out of those years ago, and then they took a wrong turn, and Sam lost his desire for independence while never losing his desire to be seen as an equal, and it became so complicated. I love watching them now as they go back over it, renegotiate, find better ways to deal with each other as adults. Very happy-making.

Right - they were getting there and then John laid that secret on Dean, pushing him explicitly back into the parental/big brother role, and Dean sold his soul and then refused for so long to let Sam help him (and spent a lot of time demanding/ordering Sam not do things etc.), and they were derailed into the mess they're in now. *pets them*

It's nice to see they've learned something from the mess.
