I have not once regretted letting go of my landline. I just didn't use it. If you want it for emergencies though, the phone company will probably cut you a deal that gives you 911 access and a few free calls for, like, $10 or something. I didn't find that I needed a landline for job hunting purposes. A cell was actually much more convenient since prospective employers could get in touch with me any time.

I was job hunting when I went from having a landline to just a cell, and it always worked out fine. If I wasn't somewhere quiet when an unknown number came in, I'd let it go to voicemail and call right back when I did get somewhere quiet. It saved me a bunch of money and it was never a problem
