Oh, bless. I hope someone types up Margaret Atwood's, because I can barely understand her handwriting.
I stopped watching The Office for exactly that reason. I can't do it. Anything with audience participation, and there's a chance of them saying something stupid or screwing something up, I cannot watch it. *shudders*
I couldn't understand it all, but here's what I got.
Canüte II I’m your wife, I said. I have needs, too. Forget about the silly old sea! It’s a global problem, he said, too many wars. People are laughing at you, I said. They can’t be laughing when they’re praying allowed in their beds, he said. We could just move up hill, I said. I’m no lily-livered [?? (-iser?)], he said. You’ll get so cold and wet, I said. [?? (there?)] Drink your wine. I’ve tried flattery, I’ve tried bribery, I’ve tried threats, he said. Nothing works! It’s water, I said. Water doesn’t negotiate. Tomorrow we’re burning the hell out of it, he said. Who needs a sea, anyway? Margaret Atwood, Paris/London 10 June 2008.
JKR really needs to either admit she's not done with the Potterverse and start writing in earnest, or remind herself that she is, and just go to work on something new.
Oh, I dunno. I think 800 words for charity isn't really a big deal, especially since I'm sure she knew that'd be much more likely to raise money than something new. But if she wants to write a book set during the MWPP-era, I'd read it. It'd probably break my shippy little heart, but I'd read it.
It's just so patently obvious that she's still so attached to the Potterverse, so strongly invested in the lives of the characters before and after. You know she wants to write more. I know she wants to write more. she knows she wants to write more. But she's got something I don't understand invested in ot doing it.
Well, possibly she feels she should be done with it and moving on. Or maybe she thinks she has to write something else to regain credibility as a writer? I don't know.
Oh, god, I have exactly the same humiliation-squick, and it's currently driving me absolutely mental with Ashes to Ashes (oh Alex honey noooo, you are acting like a lunatic, stop that); I've never even been able to think about watching The Office, because I practically come out in hives at the thought.
Yeah, I only started watching The Office for the Jim/Pam, and they've won me over with several of the other characters, but dear god, I have to get up and walk away sometimes, because I just can't watch.
It's the thing that gets me to put down a book or shut off a movie faster than anything else, and is the reason I've never even tried to watch The Office.
