I LOVE Ava. The show gets a lot of crap for not having Strong Female Characters, but the ones they bring in for short periods of time are awesome-- not just Ava, but Kat from "Asylum," and Missouri and Ellen of course. I hope that Ava is possessed so we get to see her pretend to be evil, but then she's good in the end. Because she's too adorable to be permanently evil.

Yeah, they've done some good work with female guest stars. And I really want Ava to come back because she's *so* adorable.

Also, someone mentions China Beach, and hey, McMurphy was from...Lawrence, Kansas. Someone needs to write me a crossover, because the idea of John Winchester knowing McMurphy - or Dodger - makes me kind of happy.

Oh. Holy. Shit.

God, Dodger and the boys. The mind boggles with wacky possibilities.

SRSLY!

Dodger could be a hunter, too, or something. He could have helped John out in the early days. And the boys don't know/remember him, but they meet him again now. Or something.

Someone should write this!

Oh, Dodger is totally hunter material. He'd, like, be the really crazy, intense one that the boys would be all nervous about spending time with -- I can see it now, twelve year old Dean being all, "Dude, Dad, he's CRAZY!"

Of course, I'm all about fudging timelines, because man, the McMurphy/John aspect is really intriguing. Whereas the Dodger bit just makes me giggle like a little girl.

Yes! To both of these ideas. John and McMurphy could have a lot of UST that never gets R'd after Mary dies, and Dodger would TOTALLY be the crazy wily hunter that freaked even Dean out.

You should totally write that. *nods*

All the usual suspects get namechecked - Two Cathedrals, Becoming 2, Eli's Coming, numerous HLotS and Sopranos eps.

My god, they mentioned *everything* in that list. Aside from "Two Cathedrals" and 'Brothers in Arms' (to which I say, "hell, yeah") I thought of Art Garfunkel's "All I know" in Nip/Tuckand Joshua Radin's "Winter" in Scrubs and *both* were mentioned.

Also, "Boom, Boom, Boom" - my god, that's obscure. In the commentary they say it's some band Chris Tergesen saw play and really liked or somehing. But, Oh, yes, definitely a good pick.

Yeah, with the exception of a couple of Supernatural eps I'd have mentioned (Back in Black in "Bloodlust" and Renegade in "Nightshifter") pretty much everything I'd have mentioned was mentioned. Oh, maybe Falling Awake on Grey's when George's father died, or Come Back on FNL, but those are all pretty recent.

I love that song. I had to buy some random movie soundtrack secondhand to get a copy of it, back in the day.

Also, this ep makes me want to write Dean/Ellen.

I am in full support of this proposition.

In RL, Lawrence is in a Dry State, the locals (including the university staff) are suspicious of out-of-towners (which is odd, since the U has a huge and respected foreign language program), the rest of town shuts down during a basketball game, and students are not allowed to check out university library books that aren't part of their department's subject matter.

I learned a lot about how people-not-like-me think. I also learned they don't want to learn about how I think.

I suspect a TV show sets episodes there because parts of town look like the back lot at Universal, which might be why The Day After was set there, too. Bus Stop and Picnic, also. There's a lot of civic pride for playwright William Inge.

Interesting. they've only actually set one episode there (possibly two, but they were cagey about the second one if they did), but that's where the Winchesters are originally from.
