Wow, so ten years ago Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered. I came in right at the beginning, but didn't realize it was the first episode for some reason. A lot of who I am as a fangirl I owe to BtVS fandom - atbvs to be exact. I started watching around the middle of season 2, so it's not quite ten years for me. My first post on atbvs was 3/11/99 according to Google; coulda sworn it was before that.

What's killing me is that a bunch of people on my flist are posting about it, and they're all like, "I was in middle school" or "I was a sophomore, just like Buffy," and I'm like, jesus, I was 26-going-on-27.

Buffy is still my standard of comparison for basically everything I watch. I've gotten addicted to lots of shows since then, but I can't think of anything that's ever lived up for it for me. I wish that every producer/writer/director understood the idea of emotional resonance half as well as Joss did.

Yeah, I have a triumvirate of shows I compare things to - Homicide, Buffy, and West Wing. Man, that was some fine, fine TV.
