After much back-and-forth, I've decided to put all my WIPs on a posting hiatus until I can finish them. Not a writing hiatus, just posting. I'll still be writing as much as I always do

As enjoyable as it would be to receive encouragement with every single chapter I write, I don't think the trade off would be worth it in the end. I also suspect that writers who post as they write sometimes short-change their readers, too, because they lose the ability to go back and change things if the creative process takes them off the planned path.
As annoying as it is to have to wait for the continuation of a beloved story, I'd always rather wait and get the writer's best efforts. People will wait for yours. We aren't toddlers, here. :)
I agree completely. There's a lot of stuff that I didn't know was going to happen in the beginning of TaC especially. Trevor wasn't even a thought in my mind. I imagine that when I finish everything, I'll try to clean up some timeline stuff in those early chapters and make some minor adjustments to some sentences that may contradict what's happened in the past. I much prefer the freedom of writing as it happens and then going back to fix the necessary parts.
I appreciate it, hon. <3 It's a bummer for me too. I thought it wouldn't be an issue starting out, but there is definitely a lot of unexpected pressure. What I love about the WIP posting is that I can respond to some very valid points you all bring up. However, the cons outweigh the pros.
I think the part that caused the problem in the first place was mainly all the starting and stopping that comes with writing a WIP. I'm always revising away rather than carrying on with whatever I'm writing, which sucks. Revision is important, but it feels like I stall every time I have to do three beta reads on something. That, and I feel like I can only look at something objectively after I've been away from it for a week or two at least. That sort of time frame is a luxury in the world of WIPs, and not one that I feel I can afford very often.
However, I'll still be posting stuff, so hopefully that makes up for it a little! :)
To be honest, I love it, when a story is finished before posting. A sure guarantee against the much dreaded aWIP and the author is able to update on a regular basis. Like Kachelofen's two days schedule or others that post every week. Knowing, that a good story will be updated on such a schedule makes reading it an event.
That the work's quality will be (much) better, if the author is able to go back and change things from the beginning is a given, too.
So, as much as I hate to go on a hiatus, the positive aspects outbalance the negative by far!
TaC is my first WIP, so it's been a real learning experience. I would have loved the flexibility to adjust stuff in the beginning now since a few things have changed. Oh well! Here's to more informed decisions in the future.
Ah, tis true. Many a writing boner has withered from the burgeoning pressure of finishing a WIP. Even when people are super nice about waiting... that almost makes it worse because you really want to give it to them.
Yeah, that's the thing--everyone is always so nice. I hate making them wait, and that makes the pressure even worse. And like you said, it's definitely getting to the point where I'm losing my hard on for writing in general and especially for this fic. This takes the pressure off a little.
I guess we're all sad for purely selfish reasons about having to wait so much longer for the continuation, but I've always been of the opinion that writers should write first and worry about readers' praise second :) So do what you have to do and write the way you have to write. I'm just glad you're giving us a heads up and I hope you won't face any serious writer's blocks along the way!
Can I ask about the second part of your last post-TAC, though? Will there be more soon?
I feel like part of my writer's block lately has stemmed from the pressure of getting the next chapter done, so hopefully it'll go more smoothly now. And I definitely didn't want to leave you all hanging, wondering where the next chapter of the fic is. I'll have to add a little note to my sticky post as well.
I'm working on the last part of that fic, so I don't expect it'll be much longer. :) That's the nice thing about two-parters! I'm just spending a couple days away from it so I can get refreshed and tear through it. I think I'm about halfway there, as long as the boys cooperate. Which, you never know with Brian.

(Now I may have room for some more of those plot bunnies...)
