Plot Bunnies Are The Very Worst

Apr 03, 2012 14:46

I've been trying so hard not to start a new Brian/Justin series until TAC is closer to being done. But damn, this is difficult. Is it plot bunny hunting season yet? How does everyone else deal with their untameable plot bunnies? Since I've never worked on a WIP before, I've never had to fight so hard against them. But now I feel totally screwed ( Read more... )

write all the qaf fic, i do all the things, you say obsession like it's a bad thing

Hahaha, it does sound like I'm going to be busy, doesn't it? I'm very fortunate to have one of the most low-maintenance dogs in the universe.

Never deny us yourself writing new fanfics. I've read somewhere that not sharing plot bunnies causes depression, hysteria and brain damage. True story *nods*

Any hints as to what are your ideas for those AUs? *nudges*

You know, I've heard that too, hon. Lol! If I could figure out a way to write another series without disrupting my TAC turn-around too much, I would definitely give it a shot.

Yes, I guess I could provide a few hints:

1. AU - Season 3 revisited but this time with Justin closer to Brian's age (started)
2. AU - Brian and Justin living in NYC during the Stonewall Era (much research required)
3. AU - Brian and Justin are actors on a gay TV show (closest thing to RPS I'll ever get, lol)
4. A fairly canon-compliant MPREG fic that would take place during S3. (my person challenge fic)

Oh it's no joke if you're referring to #4, lol. It's not a main priority of mine, but I'd love to give it a shot to see if I could actually pull it off and (science aside) make it feel realistic. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, I understand that. Still, it could be fun. :)

I feel you, bb! I have a notebook full of bunnies in a multitude of fandoms! They multiply while I'm not looking!

My dream = seclude myself on a beach and do nothing but write for six months. Sounds doable, yes?

Plot bunnies should be an endangered species! There needs to only be a handful of them in the whole North American continent, and that way there's a lesser chance of them destroying my brain or hijacking my muse.

A desert island sounds delightful. Well, as long as it has internet access. :)

I here ya.
but I can only write in short bursts (creatively speaking...and from a time perspective too, i guess)...so my bunnies are good at long naps...I write a few sentences and then run off to tumblr to see if there's any new glee spoilers...
but yays for inspiration! :)

Mine are definitely going to have to nap for awhile. Well, the other three will if I decide to take on one of them. I don't have a lot of ideas for most of them, just vague bits and pieces about where I want to go. The less detailed they are, the better at this point. I can keep them busy if they aren't fleshed out at all.

Inspiration is always good though. I definitely won't knock it. I can write for long sessions, but I do tend to break for tumblr or LJ, lol. I'm not as disciplined as I should be. It's not so bad until I come back to the Word doc twenty minutes later and find that I left off in the middle of a sentence. That's the worst! I have no idea why I do that.

I herd my bunnies into a notebook and occasionally add to the outlines for future things but I've found that I do best if I concentrate on one story at a time. Otherwise, I risk things blending together and getting muddled and both stories turning into a big mess.

Notebooks are a good idea. I've done that on occasion. :) I think that I'd maybe be better off just trying to pump out TAC and get that whole 'verse over with (well, aside from all the one-shots I have planned). But, I'm not sure if the plot bunnies will cooperate.

I always get uneasy when writers I follow start writing two or more WIPs at once, but then I remind myself that just because I can't do that doesn't mean other people can't. :)

It's so much fun to start new stories, isn't it? There's always that rush and exhilaration and the excitement of something new. OTOH finishing something that you've been writing for awhile (at least for me) is where discipline and dedication are what matter.

Yeah, that's why I'm so torn. I have so much of TAC figured out already (including all the stuff that happens before and after) that having a new playground to play on, so to say, would be exciting. But, I sort of like that I can write 20,000 words of TAC a month too... I'm not sure if I'd be able to handle it or not since I've never done it before.

What I know for sure is that I'll definitely write more ahead of time before posting my next WIP. I try to get ahead with TAC, but it doesn't work too well when the chapters are so involved, unfortunately.
