Why would you have had to mute your own light for his? Can two bright lights shine together? I assume it would be demanding, and probably be easier if one of the two hushes themself. Maybe the long term relationships do that, they figure out times for one person to mute themselves and at other times for the other person to quite them self.

I think it was implied. For instance, he never read my work or expressed a desire to do so. I, on the other hand, was immersed in his work. I was one of his biggest fans. We spent countless nights--during our union--jamming out with friends, but always to his songs, never anything I had written. In fact, I don't ever recall him asking what I'd like to play. It was just assumed that I'd play it, and I did. I don't mind shining light onto others. In fact, it's one of the things that I do best. But if I am the only one doing it, it starts to feel like I am being muted. With him, I was. He never asked me to do so, but it was very much implied
