Thinking of bentos

I watch this LJ community that is all people posting photos/info on their bentos, so it's been inspiring. I've always wanted to make bentos but never felt it was worth the energy. Now that I have time, I'm learning! Anyway, I'm distracting myself looking on ebay at bento supplies, even though I'm not planning on buying anything there ( Read more... )

I had seen some of that stuff when I was looking for hard-boiled egg shapers (yes, it is silly, but neat....) and all of the listings were for $14 plus an additional $5 shipping! I know all of those things come from Daiso. How ridiculous is that? Geez. (Then again, we have Daiso within driving distance, which most of the US doesn't...)

I've been wanting to try one of those boiled egg shapers! I haven't seen them at Daiso, so I haven't bought one yet. Did you get one?

I don't really mind the resellers (like you said, we are lucky to have one so close), since many people don't have access to the product, but why charge such a huge markup on it? Just a couple dollars per item would more accurately reflect your transportation costs and the cost of buying the stuff. Most places charge a lot for shipping, too, so that's not why the markup is so high. It feels like they are taking advantage of people.

I haven't found one of the egg-shapers yet, but I wasn't looking for them in the Daiso any of the times I've gone. The prices remind me of when anime was first really hitting the US mainstream; so many things that were fairly cheap were marked up to high heaven by toy retailers. As its become easier to check on the original prices, that's come down quite a bit.
