I've always liked Lee Strasberg. He taught at the Actor's Studio in New York. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro were among his proteges. He is great in the Godfather Part II.

Elia Kazan, who directed On The Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire, was also a huge theater director in NY during the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Of course, he also named names to the UnAmerican Activities Committee during the Joseph McCarthy years, putting a lot of actors, designers, and directors out of work for most of the 50s. So he's pretty much a scumbag. In my opinion. But he did great work, especially in On The Waterfront.

Thanks, Jason. I actually don't know very much about either of those people, so I will have to look them up. I know that Elia Kazan did a bunch of Tennessee Williams stuff, but I had no idea about the UnAmerican Activities Committee stuff. I think it would be interesting to know more about that entire era in general.
