*dies laughing* Please excuse my tardy response to this brilliance. *standing ovation* I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this was actually how we ended up with the word. It's much better than the other theory I heard posited, which is that it's derived from "dispatch the cock." Although this week has me considering doing that a few times as well...
