Woo, this weather and time kills desire to achieve. Regardless, I actually got my car in the garage yesterday evening. And it's looking good for ferrouswheel to be able to do a similar thing soon. Lots of crap to move still and we may have to a do a run to the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump ( Read more... )

Try listing your tiles on the Wellington Freecycle email group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Wellingtonfreecycle/

You'd be surprised at what gets offered and taken.

I really like Drupal and lots of work goes in to ensure it is developed well and to good standards.

Drupal 6 looks really nice. My old Xenodochion Website was Drupal 5.

I have some books on PHP, but they are more from a beginners point of view and I expect you'll want something more advances. Still, you're welcome to borrow them if you want.

PHP isn't that ugly. There is some pretty ugly code out there, but that's what happens when a language is used by a large number of amateurs. *shrugs*

I have some php books you could borrow too if you wanted to. Specifically these ones:

The PHP Anthology, 101 Tips, Tricks, and Hacks
PHP and MySQL for Web development
Advanced PHP for Web professionals (isn't really all that advanced)

Well it's certainly better than Perl (generally) or Brainf*ck ;)

PHP is Perl, implemented poorly and with one objective: to make HTML look code-y. I've used PHP mostly for hacking Wordpress, and while I can read the code, I don't like to; it's non-obvious what's going on inside a PHP transaction, where session data is stored, how the request and response are handled. There's no concept at all of an application dispatch layer.

That's not to say I can't use it. I have and I will. But I have other languages I'd rather write in.

Well, colour me embarrased for not knowing that.

Beyond hacking around with wordpress I haven't done much in PHP. Perl on the other hand I wrote many data extraction tools in, and my scripts were nigh impossible to read a year later... luckily I've taught myself to write much clearer code since then!

Wasn't Crank an utterly shit movie, Stratham is really scraping the bottom of the barrel lately, and they're doing a sequel, plus a Transporter 3.

As for the tiles ring around a few building recyclers and tell them they're free if they take them away. I'm sure there will be at least one of them interested in free stock, but keep a few for repairs and replacements.
