The Master, The War Chief and The War Games: Question

Jul 08, 2008 18:36

So, I was watching The War Games (and if I didn't already think that Jamie was awesome, this would have taught me that. Love Jamie. I need a 2/Jamie icon, ahem, onwards) and a thought came to me when we were shown that the War Chief is in fact a Time Lord ( Read more... )

old school, questions

It'll be a sad sad day when I do come to finally watch War Games. I just don't think I could bring myself to watch Two and Jamie's last episode. I've seen clips and bought the book (at the DW blackpool exhibition no less as the cosplay Doc and Rose talked they way in for free). So I can't help you. But I had to reply to the comment about the awesomeness of Jamie. Loves him. I even keep the pervy thoughts down until that bit in Invasion where he's curled up in the chair under that blanket. [cough] I'll go back and sit in the corner again now.

I've seen very very little of him, basically Two Doctors and the first Cyberman adventure (Five Doctors doesn't really count when it comes to this) and then War Games - but that is enough for he is AWESOME.

And I need to find out which are the slashiest Two/Jamie episodes, ideas?

But awww, it's a good episode. Kinda sad that it's their last though the idea of a mostly unseen 6B is handy *g* And interesting to see it play out, and some day, even if it's the last days of your life you should see it. Just to see how it ends.

I'm very slow with them so haven't seen as many as I should (it's the same reason I still haven't read all the Ninth Doctor books yet - because when I have there's no more new material!). Invasion is a good one. They spend most of the episode running around together. Including but not limited to - in the back of a truck, in a canoe, and clinging to each other in fear of the cybermen. Actually there feels like there's a lot of cyberman episodes with these two, but I guess it's all down to preservation. Tomb of the Cybermen has handporn. I'm still not sure how much I want to say that Evil of the Daleks was shippy and how much it was creepy (the Doctor being mean to his favourite companion, but I guess he's just setting a pattern there really ( ... )

Sam's daddy? As in LoM Sam? The actor is a bit young to have been an adult back then isn't he?

Good philosophy that *g* I haven't read them all either but that's because I'm lazzy. And shall watch those episodes on youtube, if they're there (I know the channel from blogspot).

Huh. Someone should do a meta on that, the way he's treated various companions over time, the trends and so on.

I mean, I expected some big thing to come along and so 'NO, no way' by the end but it didn't, and I was wondering if there was anything in the rest of the classic series that disproved it, or if it was a perfectly valid theory?I don't think there is anything to prove or deny this. The War Chief was shot & killed (and if he was the Master, he would have regenerated, presumably after his body had been dragged away). The Doctor failed to recognize him, but that has happened to the Doctor before with other Time Lords, so I wouldn't count on it being absolutely necessary (I do think that it would be a feature of Time Lord interactions from this point forward in the writing of scripts, however). The Master was invented as an opponent for the 3rd Doctor, but I don't see anything wrong with running with the idea for fanfic purposes or general discussion ( ... )

Well, it could be that the habit the Master had of revealing himself to the Doctor came about after this, or even because of this. Kind of a continuous 'HA! You still haven't gotten me' thing.

Good to know there's nothing to say it can't be true though, something to keep in the back of my head for future and so on, may be good in a fic as you said.

I haven't, though I'm not a member of that community, worth looking up I take it?

Very well done. We ultimately friended each other because of our love of Jamie. ;p

Canon.... or no? robz0r July 9 2008, 01:45:47 UTC
It could have been the Master, sure, if you just take the series as canon but think on this...

Virgin Missing Adventure "The Dark Path" which features DW #2 and The Master before he truly became a baddie. It takes place between the TV serials "The Web of Fear" and "Fury From the Deep." So even though the Master didn't technically appear until later in the series, this shows the Doctor and the Master as (I think) old friends and would probably mean they'd recognize each other. It has been quite a while since I read it.

I don't think the War Chief was The Master. However, there's no real answer to that question. Just speculation.

Also, the cover (totally not important, of course) shows Delgado as The Master.

I tend to think of the books as a handy place to get information to back you up when you need it but you can just as easily ignore. Like a possible canon that you can choose to accept or not. Having read hardly any, and only really new school ones (though, got part way through a Seventh Doctor one) I tend to default on 'not there' and focus on the on screen cannon.

But hmmmmm, good point with the Master in that book. Would tend to suggest that the War Chief isn't him.
